Rented out a 4 bed house with a tiny basement bedsit underneath (no cooking facilities). Council tax had never been paid on the bedsit, it shared all services with the house and has no kitchen. Starts suggested on the ad for the bedsit to write \'rent to include council tax\' . Got me a tenant, signed for 6 months...then after that another one signed for a year. After signing the 2nd 1 year contract, Starts wrote to the council to inform of this existance of this unit and a new tenant moving in. Had a big argument with the council, massive headache for months, but the result was that As Starts had worded the contract in this way, (which they suggested), I found out i was now liable (rather than the tenant) for 1 and a half years band A council tax (almost £1500)!!
Secondly they never found out if the first tenant was going to leave so she moved out on the day the 6th month contract ended, meaning no one rented the place for 2 months (costing me over £600)
Thirdly - even after the tenant moving out with no notice and me complaining to them, they then forgot to place the ad on the internet for another 2 weeks until I noticed it, costing even more time/money!
Fourthly, there was a pound coin electric meter installed, they were supposed to empty this once over 3 months and give the money to the house for electric - i found out a year later this wasn\'t done...
Plus varoius other acts of incompetence such as getting contractors in to do repair work WITHOUT EVEN INFORMING ME then subtracting the charges from my rent.
All in all completely and utterly useless, cost me a fortune and a huge amount of stress - I am now building/renovating and selling property - and this is the only agent in Newquay I WILL NEVER EVER DO BUSINESS WITH!
