Littlejohns are atrocious. From the start we received very poor and frankly rude service from both the 'manager' and other members of staff in the office.
Myself and two of my friends wanted to move in to a 4 bed flat which we could afford as we are all in full time employment - all three of us are under 30, with myself and one other both being 22 - when we said it was three of us in the property the 'manager' in the office acted extremely patronizing and even said 'well as long as your parents can cover the rent'. When I defended myself and my other friends saying we have all been in full time employment for over four years and have never needed to fall back on our parents she simply rolled her eyes at us. As a manager, myself, in hospitality I found this extremely unprofessional.
We all got charged £102 for 'admin fees' to later find out that admin fees are illegal in Scotland. We paid our full deposit and thought once we had signed the lease maybe things would get better with them. We then got extremely suspicious when we went to go sign the lease to and questioned the £102 admin fees when on a sheet of paper handed out at the flat viewing that admin fees were only £85, the manager said that VAT was added on to this - we then asked them for a VAT receipt which they would not present to us - this is also illegal. In my line of work I freguently have to send of VAT receipts to guest/clients and know the laws with regards to this stuff, when I stated that not being able to produce a VAT number and itemized receipt is illegal the 'manager' responded (I kid you not) with "how do you know that, you're only 22."...truly awful customer service.
After that we decided to pull out of the flat to which the 'manager' said we would loose all money that we had laid down on the flat, deposit included. A deposit is taken to cover any damages that occurs during your tenency, we hadn't even touched the flat since the viewing. I immediately stated this and she agreed - I then asked why would we not get a refund, she could not answer this and kept saying it is company policy. Luckily we had a copy of a receipt with us and I read through this with her - not without her trying to point out what a paragraph is to me - and found written in clearly that the company can only keep 25% of the deposit if the prospective tenents decide to pull out, I demanded the 75% refund and stated that if we did not get that then I would get a lawyer involved - we immediately got our 75%back.
We are all currently undergoing legal action with the help of Shelter Scotland Charity to get back the £102 taken from us each illegally - which we feel we deserve as it turns out that half the admin work had not even been done for the lease signing date.
Another word of warning, the communication between the staff is disgusting, nothing gets passed on and we frequently phoned to ask to speak to the manager , left messages and these were not passed on at all.
Do not waste your money or time with this letting agent. We had a truly awful experience with them, and if you are under 25 be prepared to be treated like you know nothing and are stupid
