Chimneys were asked to value this property in Childrey. As soon as the valuer arrived she was informed that they had somebody for the property from the village and they wanted to let it to them. They explained that Chimneys had been recommended by a tenant of Chimneys and on that basis the valuer remained and gave a verbal valuation. After walking round the house she suggested that they asked anything they wanted to know abouit lettings because otherwise she may talk too much. They replied that they were self-employed and didn't have the time to waste on that sort of thing. They did ask for a letter and for names and numbers of the people who worked for Chimneys who could do their work for preparing the house for let. The valuer was effectively then shown the door. Based on the fact that they clearly intended to let to the people in the village and had only called out Chimneys for the valuation and the names of their contacts Chimneys wrote a polite letter wishing them luck with letting their property. A few days letter she received a call from the woman saying that Chimneys had wasted their time. In fact from Chimneys point of view the boot was on the other foot. It's not uncommon for people who have a tenant for their property to call out agents for a valuation to ensure they do not enter a private letter on a less than market value basis. They waste a lot of agents' time and then feel annoyed that the agent will not provide the paperwork they need for their prospective tennat or even their bank or building society. We have no doubt from experience that this was one of those situations.
