We contacted Chimneys with a view to using them as our agents for letting our home as, whilst we are leaving the area, we did not want to sell our property at the moment. So, we called Chimneys to come and have a look at our house. We told them that we had the possibility of a private let arrangement with a local family but that we were, in all likelihood going to use an agent as we didn't think that'd work out which was why they were contacted. They looked round our house and all seemed to go well - in fact the woman did not seem to want to leave she liked our house so much. Two days later we received a letter telling us that they understood we were going to enter a private letting relatioship so they would not assist. We were very confused as we had discussed this at the outset (we are open hoenst people) and so called and left a message saying we wished to go ahead please. We had no reply so we telephoned again and my wife had a conversation with a woman from the company who was rude, abusive and eventually slammed the phone down as she stated we had mislead them. We were prospective landlords with this firm and had made things very clear from the start. At first my wife was bemused. She is now very upset by the abuse she received. I am so glad we did not do business with this firm. I would recommend that you use the far better estate agents in town. DO NOT USE THIS FIRM.

Chimneys were asked to value this property in Childrey. As soon as the valuer arrived she was informed that they had somebody for the property from the village and they wanted to let it to them. They explained that Chimneys had been recommended by a tenant of Chimneys and on that basis the valuer remained and gave a verbal valuation. After walking round the house she suggested that they asked anything they wanted to know abouit lettings because otherwise she may talk too much. They replied that they were self-employed and didn't have the time to waste on that sort of thing. They did ask for a letter and for names and numbers of the people who worked for Chimneys who could do their work for preparing the house for let. The valuer was effectively then shown the door. Based on the fact that they clearly intended to let to the people in the village and had only called out Chimneys for the valuation and the names of their contacts Chimneys wrote a polite letter wishing them luck with letting their property. A few days letter she received a call from the woman saying that Chimneys had wasted their time. In fact from Chimneys point of view the boot was on the other foot. It's not uncommon for people who have a tenant for their property to call out agents for a valuation to ensure they do not enter a private letter on a less than market value basis. They waste a lot of agents' time and then feel annoyed that the agent will not provide the paperwork they need for their prospective tennat or even their bank or building society. We have no doubt from experience that this was one of those situations. Over the 20 years we have been operating we have dealt with thousands of tenants and lanlords and the vast majority have been more than happy with our service. The very small number of complaints on this web site are genereally from people who are in the wrong to begin with.
