Whilst living in a property that SG let and managed for us, we were all deeply unsatisfied with the level of service we received, especially considering the amount we paid in rent and additional fees to secure the property.
When we moved into the property there was obvious signs that it hadn't been cleaned properly and a lot the previous tenants belongings were still in it.
There were many issues with the property itself, such as a poor boiler, faulty heating, lack of ventilation in the bathroom and kitchen and pipe leaks that required professional maintenance to reconstruct parts of the house. When we would contact SG to tell them of these problems, we were either told that it was our responsibility to sort it out or sometimes we would wait for weeks on end until something was done.
Upon leaving the property, we cleaned the house to what we believed an acceptable standard. During our tenancy there had been obvious signs of wear and tear that you would expect from living in a property for a year or two. We held ourselves liable in certain aspects as far as dilapidations were concerned. When we received the 'Check Out Report', we were astonished to see that we had been held to ransom. Much of our deposit had been taken and when we corresponded with SG, in a form of compromise, we were shut down completely. We are still attempting to get the majority of our deposit back more than three months down the line and fear that we may have to proceed with legal proceedings.
If you don't have a particular budget and can afford to pay well over the odds for rent and property management, then SG is probably the letting agent for you. If you are looking for a bargain or value for money and not to be treated like a child, I would strongly advise you not to use this service!
