We were encouraged by an estate agent to use Move With Us to appoint a conveyancer. As a (slightly nervous) first time buyer I thought this would be a easy option. We were given a quote for the conveyancing of £1394.06 plus stamp duty which I thought sounded ok and agreed paying an initial £100 deposit plus nearly £300 for searches. Putting aside my reservations over the service provided by the solicitor they recommended, I was surprised to receive a bill for £1164 from the solicitors in addition to the money we had already paid Move With Us, bringing the total to over £1544. Apparently this is because, despite Move With Us providing a quote for the conveyancing service, the Solicitor my add several fees on top. While this may have been in the 'small print' of the quote it came as a rather nasty shock. In hindsight I do not know what benefit we got from using Move With Us as a 'middle man' - I do not think their service offered value for money, it was very difficult to get hold of their staff with serval messages being left before anyone would call back and I would not use them again. My advice - ask your friends and families to recommend a local solicitor and go to them direct - cut out the pointless middle man!
