My boyfriend and I were looking to rent a property without viewing it first (not ideal but we had our reasons why) from Albany Lettings. The first TWO people we spoke to, on separate occasions were nice and understanding about blind renting and the contract would be sent by email the same day...however clearly they were not well informed as we were contacted later on as apparently the company have policies on blind renting NOT mentioned before.
When we rang up to ask advice about what we could do and if we can have copies of the this policy, they couldn\'t give us a copy and we were met with contradictions all the way with a woman who felt the need to blame us about their mistake of not informing us on the policy.
The woman said the policy of blind renting was in because there was law which states if we haven't viewed the property we would be allowed to pull out of the contract leaving the landlord out of pocket. (However apparently they would do us a favour and allow a friend to look at it......I thought the law stated WE had to view it??) After asking her where we could find this information on this law she mentioned we might find it at shelter, who we contacted and they informed us there was no such law (just not advisable).
The main point is:
Yes, a few members of staff were amicable but did not know anything about the company, the law and any policies and could not help.
The staff who were more experienced and could offer you the correct advice had clearly forgotten customer service and it angers me to know they can get away with making up policies and lies when we are already in the difficult situation of not being able to view the property.
Please read other reviews and you will see this is a company can not to be trusted.
