The referencing process when applying for a new flat is always stressful, but Carla was extremely helpful which made things a lot easier. She was always happy to give me an update on what was outstanding/what she had received, and she handled all my inquiries efficiently and in a manner that was polite and professional. There was a period at the very beginning when updates were not received (via email), however these were admin errors not caused by Carla, which brings me to my review of Jez.
I cannot say I was as happy with Jez's services as I was with Carla's, and the only interaction I had with him was when he collected our details. It started when Jez mispelled mine AND my boyfriend's name on the deposit acknowledgement receipt after we paid a £400 holding deposit. These are legally binding documents, and it is in everyone's benefit if the tenant's information is written down correctly on these documents. I politely corrected him and I brushed it off as a simple mistake. I understand that these things happen....even though he looked at my photographic ID when he was writing down my information. However when I realised I hadn't received any correspondence from Property Moves after two weeks I began to worry that another mistake was made.. Carla was able to confirm with me that my name had ALSO been mispelled in my email address, even though I had written it down myself. When my boyfriend and I went to sign our tenancy agreement BOTH of our names were spelled wrong on the tenancy agreement, and both of them contained the same spelling mistakes made by Jez the first time around (Carla was very quick to correct this for us). To make matters worse, Jez has repeatedly sent me emails (on an email thread regarding my guarantor's agreement form) asking me to review Property Moves, and my name is STILL spelled wrong. My name is Caitlin, and in all the emails he sent me he still addresses me as Caitlan (this is how he has written my name on deposit acknowledgement receipt when I paid the holding deposit AND on the tenancy agreement). Either Jez is doing this on-purpose, or he simply doesn't care enough to pay attention. Hopefully now that I've written a review I won't get so many emails with my name spelled wrong (If you're going to ask me to review your services you could at least TRY to spell my name correctly). To some people it might seem like I'm making a big deal out of something small, but as I said before these are legally binding documents - if I was a landlord I would be EXTREMELY worried if the letting agent I hired couldn't be bothered to take down my tenant's details correctly.
I am recommending this agency because Carla and everyone else I've dealt with have been nothing but professional and accommodating. I am also very satisfied with the incredibly detailed inventory I received upon check-in. No other letting agent I've been with has given me an inventory as detailed as the one I received from Property Moves.
Comment on agent fees
Tenancy fees are £216 per person, and an extra £30 if a guarantor needs to be referenced. In total my boyfriend and I paid £462. I am happy with the fees I paid because Carla made every penny worth it! She was quick to correct any errors made by her colleagues and she was always happy to handle my inquiries. In addition to that, she was very helpful when we went to sign our tenancy agreement and happy to answer any questions we had. These are the highest fees I've paid in Brighton, but Carla definitely made sure that we got our money's worth.
