Double standards is the only way of describing my involvement with Symonds and Reading. We viewed a property on behalf of our son, which we liked a lot. He was on holiday in Wales and we telephoned him to advise contact with S&R ASAP. We were told that there had been a viewing but were not sure whether an offer had been made or not. However, they had booked a second viewing late the following day, a Saturday. We asked if there was an offer in or likely to be one the following day and agreed, could we still make an offer. We were told no that would not be ethical and S&R would not put forward another offer if one had already been sgreed. At that point, I said if I contacted the seller direct with an approved offer what would the reponse be from S&R. I do not recall an further comment. So, to me that was clear, an honest ethical and fair reply to a difficult senario.
Move on two days, my son made an initial offer which was turned down. A further offer was made which the seller then accepted. Everyone happy, including S&R. Two days later a phone call from S&R, sorry someone has put in a higher offer, unless you bid higher it's gone. The fact of the metter is this second offer was from someone who had not viewed the property, and working on the basis of your fair trading point above, you should not have allowed a new viewing after an offer had previously been agreed and acepted. No viewing, no offer allowed. It should work with S&R like it appears to with most other agents, so wh not here? This is what I mean by double standards. I am extremely unhappy and totally dissatisfied with how this has been handled.

As a company, we pride ourselves on our honesty and integrity and naturally we are very disappointed to receive this review. We did make Mr C aware that a viewing was to take place after the offer was received. We were unable to make contact with viewers within the 30 minutes of the offer being accepted their allotted viewing time. They in turn did make an offer which Mr C's son counter offered against. The seller chose to take the alternative lesser offer, as the buyers were in a better buying position. Obviously we would like all transactions to be successful to both seller and buyer and we can only use our experience to guide sellers and buyers alike. The UK conveyance is fraught with undesirable practises and we strive to be transparent throughout so this type of situation happens infrequently - please read our other 100 outstanding reviews. We are now working with Mr C's son to try and find a property suitable for their needs.
