From day 1 I feel I have been lied to. Right from the onset I was told information about the property and its contents that I have later found to be untrue, I have been subject to over the top fees one being the rent in advance (to which I complained and was them told 'it was a mistake') and the correct fees applied and the holding fees do not contribute to anything more than pocket money for these vermin!

I was also given the wrong moving in date which had been issued to me TWICE and then the agent comes the realisation that the date is incorrect.

I since went into their offices and looked at the contract I was going to sign and pointed out every single fault with the contract (improper wording, unfair terms with the landlord) and the person just laughed it off and stated she can't change anything as they get the contracts from the lawyers, another lie. There was a lot of pressure selling and no effort to try and make the contract read properly.

On entering the property, a very thorough inventory was conducted and I stood right over the persons head making sure everything I had seen was noted. The place was furnished to an abysmal standard, there are chairs and furniture piled high in rooms. The furniture that is set out in some sort of order has burn marks, nasty stains, discolouration, broken springs you name it, How they can advertise the property as furnished I have no idea. I wouldn't let my worst enemy sit on their shoddy furniture.

On asking to have this horrible items removed, I was met by the sentence 'although this may have been agreed at the initial viewings, this is not in the agreement' what the hell!!?

I am also intrigued to find out what their definition of a deep clean by professionals is as I have gone around the skirting boards and cupboard doors with a white cloth and it's been black after only a few swipes.

I'm infuriated by these agents and will be taking my complaints further with them as they only appear to be money grabbing pests out for themselves and not giving a damn about their tenants.

What you have written in absolutely inaccurate, and I have had the same experience as the person above.

You stipulate the fees for certain checks - thee fees are grossly in-proportionate to the actual cost of carrying out these services. A credit check costs less than a pound, but tenants are charged excessively for this.

Your contracts are not unchangeable, and your terms and length of contract usually are pushed through to ensure minimum benefit for the tenant. Veritas has never been receptive to negotiation of the contract, and even go further to go back on agreed terms (even written in the contract).

I was handed a dirty flat with appalling furnishings which we were expected to remove, despite us requesting on signing the contract to remove this furniture. Eventually, we had to speak directly with the landlord to sort things out, begging the question as to what exactly Veritas does as a "letting management service". The irony is that the flat was handed back in a better condition, and yet we were charged fees for inadequate cleaning.

Furthermore, I have personally had your senior lettings manager lie directly to me after I discussed an issue with the landlord directly, in a vain attempt to extract money out of us.

All-in-all, this was an extremely poor service from an unprofessional firm. I, too, am looking to take this matter further. I feel sorry for people who have to accept your appalling service.

Having read your review it’s extremely disappointing to see such feedback

From initially putting in an offer to signing contracts we have not been notified about any of the issues mentioned in your review. Should you have felt, during any stage, that something was unfair this could have been flagged up at any time. At no point was this done.

My comments below are a response to the issues you have raised:

We have a signed holding fee agreement by you which stipulates the conditions and an agreement in respect to the move in date, fees and special conditions. I personally met with you when you handed back the reference forms and signed the holding fee agreement in our office at no point did you flag the move in date, and that you required the furniture to be removed/replaced.
You have now asked for the furniture to be removed even though this was not a condition when you decided to take the property. Unfortunately this would now be at the landlord’s discretion as this was not a condition as part of the original offer you made.

In regards to your comments about the clean, the inventory company has confirmed that a professional clean has been carried out, however the property was left in a bad condition from the previous tenants, and a few places could have benefited from an extra wipe down. I would be more than happy to send the cleaning firm over again to ensure anything missed can be rectified.

The fees you have been charged are related to checking of referencing, carrying our credit checks and verifying the information you have provided, as well as the administrative work of liaising with all parties, inventory companies and professional cleaners to make the move in as smooth as possible. We employ an external reference agency to carry this out on our behalf. Before putting down a holding fee you were explained what fees were to be charged and the purpose for these fees. Again if you were not happy there was ample opportunity to raise your concerns.

Finally you have said our tenancy agreement has a lot of unfair clauses that you were given clarification on, you were again given ample opportunity whist in the office for almost three hours to raise your concerns, and not sign the agreement.

Whilst responding to your review I'm astonished that if you were having such a bad experience with our agency/member of staff this could have been escalated to a senior member to iron out any problems prior to you moving into your new place.
