Speirs Gumley are the most awful, contemptible organisation I have ever had the misfortune of being landed with. Unfortunately, as an individual, you can\'t opt out or take your custom elsewhere without the majority of owners in the building supporting you - and don\'t they just know it.
Highlights include misappropriation of insurance claims, leaving us with an almost uninsurable building and hugely inflated costs, a 10 year neglect of fire safety equipment, which thankfully didn\'t put us in danger, but had to be discovered by another resident. They deliberately ignore proprietors, show favouritism towards those who give them an easy time, and spend way outside their authority, despite 2 years of warnings from the whole building, requesting they seek approval first.
Tried complaining to one of their managing partners, Lorraine MacDonald, who was rude, ignorant, and refused to acknowledge that there even was a problem! A hint for you - if your customer tells you they are receiving bad service and are unhappy, you telling them that they receive a good service, whilst being unable to demonstrate this good service, doesn\'t fix anything. Also, telling your customer that their complaint "doesn\'t warrant a response" (a direct quote from Ms MacDonald) just shows how little respect you hold for those who pay you to look after their collective interests.
Expect them to add 20% to all insurance policies, which they cream off for themselves, whilst refusing to let you change to a more competitive insurer. They\'ve also just increased our management fee to allow them to manage our building in compliance with new legislation - which they\'re not doing! Their communication is non-existent (e.g. \'Dear Factor, I think my bill is incorrect, can you please explain xx charge\' is answered with \'Dear owner, your bill is in order. Factor\'). They claim to inspect our building quarterly, and sometimes more often than this, yet never find anything, which is extremely suspicious when they refuse to give feedback following their inspections, and \'miss\' problems which are reported to them as early as a few days later. There\'s no evidence whatsoever to suggest they ever inspect our building. Or maybe they do it with their eyes shut?
Beware! This company is horrendous, and when stuck with them, you have NO VOICE, and very very little chance of being rid of them. Unethical, uncaring and simply disgraceful. Only advice I can offer is avoid.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Complied with legislative requirements would be a good start! The list goes on & on...
