I don't usually review places, but these guys are SO BAD I feel I should warn others. Let from them my first flat after moving out with a friend, and it was a nightmare from the beginning!
They messed up our applications for a property we had our hearts set on, AFTER we paid the deposit in full, saying another applicant had been selected. This turned out to be a mix-up, as I was actually the applicant they had selected, and they didn't realise I was the same person, for some reason.
We later found a property we liked, and though we were already reluctant to go with Rockford, they seemed to have most of the properties that met our needs, and so we managed to get through all the tedious paperwork and back and forth (including waiting at the Rockford office in a private rooms for over an HOUR when signing the lease), which I haven't had to experience with other agencies.
Further down the line, once we moved into the property (which we were assured was "newly renovated", hence a sudden increase in the rent just before we were due to move in), the boiler and oven were both not working, and it took a fair few weeks before Rockford tried to solve this, and we ended up being charged for the boiler fix, even though I had numerous family and friends try to find the fault before telling Rockford, to ensure it wasn't us being ignorant.
Later again, when it came time for us to move, we left the property in excellent condition (I'd like to say in even better condition than when we first moved in) and were charged £50 off our deposit for cleaning. Stupidly, I let them have it, as I didn't need even more fuss from them, but soon after found out from other members of my university that they try this trick on everyone!
A couple of smaller issues we had were:
- the whole time we lived there (around 8 months), we received letters concerning the bills prior to our move in, which Rockford still had not dealt with (we went to the office multiple times with these letters, then resorted to emailing scanned copies).
- a bedroom door was unable to close upon us moving in, as well as there being multiple handles missing from cupboard in the kitchen (which we were told upon viewing would be renovated)
- the "renovation" consisted of panels in the bathroom used to cover mold, the rest of the bathroom being constructed in a slap-dash manner, with filler on the shower screen and mirror (which I managed to EVENTUALLY remove)
- the staff in the office seemed to act defensively whenever they were asked a question, seemed unsure on what to do under almost any circumstance, and left us feeling like we were treading on eggshells.
Please PLEASE don't put yourself through this, go with ANYONE else!
