My girlfriend and I met with Darren to view a property in Reddish while it was still inhabited by the tenants we would be replacing. Darren phoned us 15 minutes before the appointment to ensure we were going to be there, then turned up 10 minutes late. The place was a tip but we were assured by written agreement that it would be cleaned and maintenance work carried out prior to our arrival.

Bright were pretty efficient on the admin pre move in, though my girlfriend did feel they asked too many questions compared to other letting agencies she had used (I had no point of comparison due to always having lived in Armed Forces accommodation).

On the day of moving in (Saturday 26 March 2016) Darren turned up 5 minutes late and said he didn't have time to come in with us because he had a meeting to get to. Due to an error on my part, I had to leave him for 5 minutes while I went back to our current flat and transferred the deposit (I had already set up the standing order for the monthly rent and was expecting to transfer the deposit via a card machine on the day of moving in). This was certainly my mistake but it wasn't made clear to us either and we had been prompt with all other admin the asked of us (securing references, etc).

The flat was an absolute disgrace. I still have the photos so if anybody wants to see them please get in touch with me at [email protected] and I will gladly send them to you. There was poo still in one of the toilets, mould on window sills, skirting boards, behind a wardrobe and up walls. The place stank of damp. The leaking bath and subsequent mould underneath had seeped through to the living area and the floor in there and door frame was rotting. The window blinds were grubby, light fittings hanging out of the ceiling, thick layers of dirt behind the toilet, the list goes on... Of course, we couldn't move in, and our friends that had given up their day to come and help us move had their time wasted. I work in Wiltshire during the week and had needed to get sorted with moving in on the long bank holiday weekend.

I immediately phoned Darren and he half heartedly apologised and said he would get hold of his cleaner, though he may not be able to get there that weekend due to the bank holiday and his religious beliefs. He told me he would get back to me that day with an update and of course he didn't.

We emailed Bright and explained the situation to them and that we felt we had been misled and Darren had deceived us by not entering the flat and saying he was in a rush, they got back to us on the Tuesday due to the bank holiday and said they would get it sorted. The next 2 weeks involved a lot of me and my girlfriend chasing them (Lisa and Beth) up for answers and not getting much in the way of replies. It was made clear to them that my girlfriend had handed her notice in on her current flat and would need to know whether the new place would be inhabitable within a couple of weeks. During this time I was amazed to find that, despite his general slobbish nature and lackadaisical attitude, Darren was actually the owner of the company!

Come the weekend of 09 April, we were completely fed up with hearing very little from Bright and made the decision that it was their last chance to at least tell us something positive. ANYTHING to let us know they were getting stuff sorted. Darren eventually got in touch with me that day, only after Beth (who I actually felt sorry for, being stuck in the middle of it all) rang him on my behalf and insisted that he call me. We had a chat and he then text me later in the evening saying he'd meet me the next day at 1000 at the flat to check it out and see what needed doing (which was everything).

On Sunday 10 April, I got there early to check the place out. It had had a quick clean but nothing like it needed and none of the maintenance had been carried out. There were still cobwebs and dust in the same places in cupboards. All the stuff I listed above was still a problem, plus the rest.

It got to 1010 and I called Darren (late again), who didn't answer. 5 minutes later he called me back, saying he thought we were meeting at 1100, this despite HIM TELLING ME the time via text only the day before. I told him that he needn't bother coming because the place is disgusting and we wanted our money back. He said that he actually wanted us out anyway due to me being mean about him in the first complaint email I sent (where I said he had deceived us) and because I made him late for a meeting by having to nip away and transfer the money on the move in day. I managed to hold back the expletives and say I'm happy with that. He said he would need to come and get the keys off me so I waited another 30 minutes for him.

We got our full deposit, first month rent and application fee back a few days later so at least I can be thankful that didn't because yet another issue. Bright wasted our time, took our money when they hadn't done what they agreed to, caused us needless worry and stress and then capped it off by insulting us by saying we were the ones messing them around.

We always ask that tenants sign tenancies in our office. On this occasion I agreed to sign up at the property in between saturday viewings on a busy viewing day as a favour to these guys as they could not do mid week.

Whilst I agree that there were sone minir issues this was blown out of all proportion and exaggerated. There is some level of fabrication in this complaint. For example my "religuous" beliefs". Whilst I respect all religions and believe that true faith is a good thing, I myself am not religious.

Poo in the toilet is a complete lie.

As for wanting him out. I said that I would rather not enter into a tenancy with someone who will fabricate so many lies and accuse me of lies and deception. This is not a fair representation of me and I have hundreds of tenants who would attest to my honesty, courtiousness and helpfulness. However, I would rather not engage in any kind of arrangement with anyone this dishonest. Stewart knew that my schedule that saturday was tight and he chose to beleive and accuse me of being devious. I prefer to believe tge best in people and will continue to do so despite meeting people like Stewart.

I too have evidence of the condition of this property in video format. I will post a follow up with a link to the video which we have on disc. I will upload to youtube. There was no poo in the toilet. To suggest so is just scummy of you.
