The agent arranged for me to visit the property. However, at this point the agent failed to disclose that a family friend of the owner had 'expressed interest' in the property, which in reality was an offer dependent on securing a mortgage. I visited the property and made an offer. It was then revealed that a full asking price offer had already been placed by the vendor's family friend. I matched the offer as requested by the vendor, however, this was still insufficient to secure the property as it was then disclosed that the vendor felt a moral obligation to the family friend. Had I known the background to this house sale, I would not have wasted considerable time and expense viewing the property. Understandably I felt somewhat misled. Why did the vendor continue to allow viewings when he knew he was likely to favour the family friend? When I politely posed this question to the agent, he PUT THE PHONE DOWN ON ME!
