My experience of Surelet has been a terrible one from the beginning. When we agreed to move in it was on the understanding that the dirty carpets would be cleaned, the soiled mattress would be removed and the property cleaned to a reasonable standard. The day came to move in, first, Surelet had failed to provide us with a car park fob to enter and also gave us the wrong gate code, luckily a neighbour gave us the details. When we entered the property, it was in a filthy state with the soiled mattress still in the flat, larger stains that previously seen on both bedroom carpets, a broken bath panel and just general dirt although Surelet claimed this was acceptable.
After spending our own time and money cleaning the flat things went fine, and because we left it too late to find somewhere else suitable we signed a short extension. One month after the extension, after returning from work I found the locks had been changed and Surelet knew nothing about it. The property owner had not paid his mortgage and had not been authorized to let the property,
I had to take two days off work and sort this out myself as Surelet were less than helpful failing to sort anything out and leaving it all to us, as they kept telling us they were waiting on their legal department (which was a third-party) to inform them of the situation. This advice never materialised.
Once we were back in, Surelet refused us compensation for the time the property was uninhabitable, thus breaking the contract and refused to give me the landlords details. Which broke the law. However, I found out online that our landlord did not own the property and informed Surelet who claimed it did not matter.
Another month on, we have been evicted as the landlord who refused to communicate with us, we have been evicted and our attempts to delay the eviction by two months refused as our landlord as per our contract has no legal right to the property or evidence to support that. Surelet said if we wanted to go with them that they would waive the agency fee but after our overall experience with them we would rather not.
While some of the staff were helpful and did seem to try, overall you are met with a slow service, they have no knowledge of the law (least I hope they are not ignoring it on purpose) and they will defend the landlord over you no matter what the landlord does.
Do not use them.
What agent could do to change your mind?
They could have provided us with accurate legal advice, adhered to the laws in regards to our requests for the landlords information sooner, provided us with the gate code and correct key fobs, cleaned the property as they had promised, actually helped sort out our eviction situation which was brought about in part by their lack of action.
