In February 2021 I asked Your Move as well as other estate agents to value my previous home in preparation for sale.
Elliott Marsham, the Goole branch manager, came complete with printed graphs and numbers showing how they sold the most houses in the quickest time, which I wasn't interested too much in as I realise there's a lot more to selling a house and working with a professional is key.. Anyone can value a house at a low figure for it to sell quickly.
I had three other estate agents who all valued my house at £320k - £325k. Elliot valued my home at £225!!! If I agreed to sell my home with Your Move at that price, of course, it would have sold quickly!!
Once Elliot realised I wasn't happy with his valuation he became quite threatening, telling me he does the bank valuations in the area so even if I went with one of the other estate agents who valued my home at a much higher amount he would devalue it to the £225k which obviously caused some anxiety so I called the other estate agents and asked if they knew Elliot to do valuations for the bank which they didn't. They had never heard of Elliot Marsham but did tell me the companies who they do work with who would potentially do the valuations.
Elliot also made comments about how I may struggle to sell and asked.. 'did you have problems getting insurance on this property?' which I said no to because I never struggled to get insurance. He told me that because I lived near a couple of shops/fish and chip shop that the future home owners may struggle to get home insurance. After I told him I never had problems getting insurance he told me that insurance companies had brought out new rules since I bought my home, 3 years previous to deciding to sell..
As far as I am aware, the current home owners had absolutely no problem getting home insurance ?
I, a young female was home alone whilst my partner was at work when Elliot came to value my house and I wonder whether he would have acted differently if my partner was home..
As well as the above, Elliot wasn't that professional, he made plenty of unnecessary comments about other estate agents and I didn't appreciate his over confident attitude. Regardless of the 100k Elliot devalued my house at I wouldn't have chosen Your Move based on his attitude alone.
I would also like to make extremely clear that I sold my house for the asking price of £325k within 3 hours of it being on rightmove.
At the same time of selling my previous home I viewed homes sold in the York area by Your Move and had a completely different experience with Scott Anscomb who did the viewings. He was lovely and very professional.
