Started renting from this agency early in 2020. All started off well. Staff came across as professional and polite.
But with estate agents, you can’t know how good they are till an issue comes up that needs resolving. Barkers failed miserably at sorting issues with the property.
A few months in to our tenancy, the cellar began to flood badly. Rang the agents immediately, but it was out of hours. So left an email marked EMERGENCY. No response. Had to chase them.
We had to go in the cellar every time it rained or when we used the washer in the cellar to mop up water. It would take hours at a time. All of this was while we were looking after our 3 month old daughter. So if me or my wife was home alone with the baby, we had to leave her unattended to sweep the water. Horrible experience. We got no urgency or sympathy from the agency or landlord.
I personally think flooding in a property should be fixed as soon as possibly. Certainly within a month.
It took the agents and landlord over 69 days to put a pump in. I’ve told them more than once they should be ashamed of themselves leaving a family with a young baby in those conditions.
The flooding ruined a lot of our items we had stored in the cellar. Mouldy, damp and infested with maggots. They wouldn’t reimburse us for those.
Around a month into the issue , we had to purchase a water vac of our own backs. Getting the money back from that was like getting blood out of stone. We eventually got the money back.
After the pump was fitted, we then had the issue of sewage from a neighbouring property getting into the living room.
The agent we dealt with said this was a freak occurrence. I said no it’s not, the property obviously has a problem with water and damp getting in and maybe it need repointing . He insisted I was wrong. Around a year later when the autumn weather came again, the living room is overrun with damp. So it appears I was right.
Horrible agents, glad to be rid of them.
