Let me tell you about my little afternoon of rage courtesy of Countrywide Lettings and their profound ability to share personal data literally willy nilly.
Recieved a letter via post and email inviting me to organise a check out where they listed the future tenant including her full name and mobile number. The letter said that the system showed that these were the current tenant details (first inkling that the system is a series of toddlers with crayons). The letter also gave a contact name and number for any questions. I had already organised a check out appointment about 4 weeks ago so I emailed back to point out these errors with no reply within 3 working days (10 working days and counting now). When I couldn't get through to the head office and had to leave a message I decided to try the contact from my letter only to find that the contact number was my personal mobile number. Which was apparently not only being shared, but being advertised as an employee contact.
Fortunately someone at the office called me back that afternoon. He apologised and said that there must be an error in the system (rocket scientist in the house ladies and gents) and that he would correct it for me and send out a new letter. I have already vacated the property so requested that it be sent on to my forwarding address. Which I'd provided. Weeks ago. Which his precious system appeared to have swapped with a mysterious forwarding address that I assume another client had passed on in confidence that their personal data would be kept confidential. Sorry other client, but someone read the entire thing to me over the phone.
At this point I was more than concerned that my personal data had not been handled appropriately. I expressed my worries that other clients may call me asking for advice about their check out appointments to be told 'that won't happen'. After being told that my number wasn't passed on to anyone else, I asked what I should do if any clients call me. 'Oh just tell them to call us' is not a reassuring response let me tell you.
Check out is next week so no comment on that just yet. In the meantime furious is an understatement.
Comment on agent fees
I first let the properly 4 years ago but remember that the fees were nearly double that of competitors. Fee to renew the property also seemed high considering we sent back our signed agreements and never got copies back that were signed by the landlord.
