I was very suspicious as the Maxwell was taking to me like I was a 10 year old, as if this was the first time I'd ever lived alone. I'm 30. Asking me if I knew what a bedsit was and explaining how a house share worked. I mean come on. He was extremely patronising.
He then went on to try to convince me how lovely his landlords were and that he only deals with good landlords. I expressed that I wouldn't take a property based on how lovely he thought the landlord was. After all, I'd just met him, why would I take his word on a character reference when he's trying to sell me something?
He then told me that the fee he charges is £89 bit he'd offer the student rate to me. Why? I thought? Why be extra nice to me and offer me a lower rate? It like he was trying to make out that he was doing me a special favour. All part of his act in trying to convince me.
He kept going on about his contact and how it was legal, thinking I'd be impressed and feel secure by the fact that I'd have something to sign. I was not impressed.
Smelling a very big rat, I told him I'd go to get the money out of the cashpoint. He got excited and said he'd come to smoke a cigarette and show me where it was. I quickly typed in reviews for central flats on my phone and this site came up. I told him I wouldn't be paying and I left.
I didn't pay anything, I was just very suspicious of him both over the phone and in person. He was trying to convince me the whole time and clearly thought I was a dumb little girl with no life experience.
