I had bad bad experience before with Foxtons (Lordship Lane branch) when we booked to see a property, we were told the only time he (Andrew, a South African guy) can show us the property is Sunday morning at 8:30. We were kin to see it so agreed to the time. He then spent almost 3 hours driving us (claiming showing us the area) around and showed us 3 other properties which are all 100k over our budget, then turned around said ¢â‚¬Å“sorry we ran out of time, I have the next client waiting and have to show you the flat you want to see some other time¢â‚¬Â. We lost that property as we had to go with a different agent to get to see the property and by then there were already 2 offers on the table. Should have known then that Foxtons is a big ¢â‚¬Å“no no¢â‚¬Â ¢â‚¬â€œ they do have very nice website to attract you in though.
We then (stupid enough) used Foxtons Streatham High road branch (told them the story and they said they will change our mind about Foxtons) put in an offer for a property in Tulse Hill (London), the property is lease hold and has a high service charge (£190 per month), as part of the deal, Foxtons informed us that the vendor has agreed to pay for 6 months service charge post completion. Foxtons was very pushy (there were 2 agents dealing with us Tom H and Chris R, Chris was extremely rude to us) and tried to get us to pay for the survey before the draft contract was agreed. 3 months into the purchase, we received an email from the vendor's solicitor saying neither the vendor nor her solicitor has heard about the ¢â‚¬Å“6 months post completion service charge¢â‚¬Â. We challenged Foxtons and they got into a panic, Foxtons then tried to bully us and told us the vendor would pull out the deal if we don't agree to their terms that no 6 months post completion service charge would be included in the agreed price. I told them to go ahead with it, until this day they still chasing us for an alternative solution (well...they can get lost)
We were misled to a material degree which is illegal, so if they are bad enough to do illegal stuff then it gives you a good indication how bad things are with Foxtons.
So if you don't want your property purchasing/selling experience turn into a nightmare (like ours) then avoid Foxtons at all cost.
What agent could do to change your mind?
To improve they would have to stop illegal practises.
