On the moving in date on Friday, the bedroom ceiling started leaking whilst we were out returning the van. The emergency number of the property management company that we called the next day did not return our phone call. Action was taken on Monday and the leak was resolved on Wednesday. However, the water damaged some of our personal belongings on the first night. In addition, the second night we tried sleeping on the bed (furnished flat) and were severely bitten by bed bugs. While treatment commenced on Tuesday, today, a week later, there are still live bed bugs in the bed frame, mattress and bedroom floor. We have not been able to use the bedroom for 1.5 week and we may not be able to use it for another 3 weeks. We are sleeping on the floor in the living room, and have still not even received an apology from the landlady, let alone some form of compensation. The estate agents must have known about the bed bugs, as I cannot imagine that the previous tenant did not notify them of the parasitic problem. While the flat is generally in average to poor condition, the bugs make the bedroom uninhabitable.
