We flagged potential water damage issues before signing a contract on a rental property, and Marshall confirmed via email that the property had recently been inspected and nothing was found. With that information, we signed the lease and moved into our new property. We spent £235 in application/credit check fees, and £140 in moving costs.
3 days after moving in, extensive damp was found in both exterior (structural - illegal) and interior walls by a Marshall maintenance person. Damp that got progressively worse over the course of the 45 days it took to schedule someone to fix the issue because they couldn't sort it out with the landlord.
We asked to terminate the contract, and Marshall & the landlord graciously accepted. When asked if they would compensate us for application fees and moving costs since they misled us before we signed the contract, they not-so-graciously declined.
So now we're out £375 + fees and moving costs for our next letting, in addition to £750/month in rent, for 2 months of toxicity. But at least they agreed to let us leave.
