Unfortunately, "so terrible it's almost a joke they're still in business" was not an option under overall rating options, so a simple "terrible" will have to suffice.
From the very beginning, the entire process of renting this flat has been a nightmare. Even attempting to get the keys from their office was a tedious 3-day process, not to mention the weeks of unanswered e-mails and silence in response to phone calls and messages. Although, they will most certainly have your full attention when it's time for them to collect any form of payment.
Aside from not doing their jobs properly or professionally, they've taken the liberty of bringing viewers to the house, unannounced with no warning, to show them a housemate's room (whom had already paid the deposit for said room). Additionally, they've sent viewers to the house without accompanying them (and naturally, without warning) leaving me with strangers at my door and a delay in my plans.
Had this been the full extent of this hellish experience, I would've swept it under the rug and left it at that. However, this was only the beginning.
The bathroom light, which has not worked since arrival, in addition to the missing bins, broken front-door lock and handle and empty electricity top up (bills included in rent) are just a few things we weren't expecting from such a "reliable" letting agency. When confronted about the bathroom light in person and on the telephone, agents promised to send an electrician to fix the problem. After months of darkness, further requests for the fix were made and not only was the problem ignored, but the agents decided that the request was not submitted according to their protocol, which we apparently would have known had we read the tenancy handbook that we had never seen, heard of or received.
On top of all of this, their lack of communication hit a plateau when the 3 of us young ladies were all away on trips and were surprised with a new housemate: a middle-aged man whom none of us had ever met or heard of. Had the key to my room worked, I would have locked my door whilst I was away for the week visiting my parents in London, but the odds of a stranger moving in while I was gone seemed absurd at the time.
It is unfortunate that it has come to this, but Tyrer and Hart "customer service" has made me incredibly livid and I can't stand the idea of them profiting from the downfall of others. Not only do I plan on writing a review containing this unfortunate story on every website possible, but I will pass on this information to friends of mine that work as student advisors at the international college in town. No one should have to pay for this kind of treatment.
