This review does not apply to either Chris Arthur or Jenny, both of whom were always friendly and helpful.
I rented a studio from this agency on 30 Gordon Road between November 2014 and December 2016. The price was fine for the size and location to begin with.
Between the summer of 2015 and October 2016, the landlord, Paxform Properties, undertook a seemingly never ending, arduous renovation in the flat below me. This caused well over half a year of daily disturbance in the form of unbearable drilling noise, shouting, hammering and other machine noise; scaffolding in front of my windows; electricity outages; possible electricity theft and a possible bike theft. After tolerating this for over half a year I made a complaint.
Town & Country's Steve Chipp forwarded this to the Landlord who arrogantly shrugged it off. Instead of supporting me, Chipp insisted that T&C have nothing to do with it, as I am renting from the Landlord. They were completely non-supportive. The building works continued. I then suggested a reduction in my rent due to the abysmal living conditions, this was also shrugged off. Once again, Chipp not only took no action on my part, he accused me of being libelous.
As my agreement was with my agency (obviously!) and not the landlord, it should have been their responsibility to intervene. Furthermore, the despicable behavior of this Landlord - a complaint I am pursuing separately - should have been confronted by the agency. They did nothing of the sort.
Second point: The flat had, since I moved in, a serious problem with damp and mold - far beyond the usual damp and mold in Brighton flats. Nothing was ever done to remedy this. The insulation in the flat was non-existent and after the building works below me, the temperature indoors nearly equaled that of outdoors. In November, I even recorded a temperature of 11 degrees indoors (it was perhaps 6 degrees outside).
In hindsight it is very obvious that the Landlord tried to prompt me to leave, even going so far as to suggest this as a solution to my dissatisfaction.
It is unbelievable that a legal agency in a modern city accepts and/or turns a blind eye to a corrupt and careless landlord. As is all too common, this is a classic case of 'tenant - unimportant, landlord - god'.
Anybody planning to rent from this agency, please check very carefully who the landlord is, what the condition of the flat is and who you will be dealing with.
Comment on agent fees
The agency fees were alright for Brighton.

I can only state that I do not agree with your summary of the problems nor my efforts to get them resolved but understand that perception is important for how tenants feel.
I am sorry you feel that our high standards that we set ourselves here at Town and Country were not met on this occasion.
