The service of this company as a collective is dire. I work in customer service, and can tell you that not one of the employees has any idea what good customer service is. We have been ignored more times in one year than I ever have in my life, apart from one person - who became the only person I would deal with in the end returned ONE phone call, or email - and unfortunately there were lots of occasions that we had to ring. We were pressured into putting a holding fee (non returnable too) on when we looked at the property, but as we liked the property anyway we did so. The paperwork took forever to sort considering they took nearly £1500 in admin fees in the end, and when we collected the keys we were told the fires had been condemned, but would be addressed by the landlord himself, but to let them know if there were any issues. That was just the start. On inspection of the property we found that there were a few issues that needed addressing, these were promptly passed back to Bridgfords who said they would sort them for us. Great you'd think, but, nothing. A month passed by with no word from them, the person who we had been dealing with NEVER rang us back. Finally we rang and she picked the phone up, all she said (and all any of them subsequently said after) was he issue has been passed to the landlord, I'll chase this wh him. Another month passed and I was finally off work, so went down to see them. I sat down with the person and calmly explained all our grievances, and pointed out their responsibilities from the contract that the issues needed fixing. The following WEEK (not day, day after but week) we received a call - the first one back - saying the landlord was going to come over and look at the issues himself. The night came, no show. Apparently he had been and said we weren't in, but we were, as I had cancelled appointments to make sure we were there. After many phone calls, another appointment was finally agreed. This time he turned up, but made lots of promises to sort stuff in the summer, nothing materialised by October, even after many phone calls, so I went back in and met the person who helped the most (but still never returned most of the calls). The landlord came back and this time said that he wouldn't do anything but try and fix the dishwasher. Then took a further 2 weeks to collect the dishwasher then a further 6 weeks to receive the replacement! - Two weeks before Christmas. (The issue had first been reported on the 7th may!) In January I noticed a damp patch above the kitchen door. We immediately reported it, but nothing happened. We then heard nothing until the beginning of February, when we received a letter saying they were putting the rent up by £10, and wanted £125 in admin fees to renew the policy! We then challenged this but were told that there was an error for the increase and that the rent would remain the same. I again raised the issue of the damp (which 4 weeks on and reported twice, had gotten worse) and finally the landlord sent someone round to look at the problem. He found that the gutters were blocked so cleaned them whilst I was at work. He then came back the next day and looked at the damp, and said (I quote) I'll leave it to dry out and then paint over it!! My partner and myself had decided enough was enough and we decided to leave the property. We have now been out of the property 4 weeks, and have had weekly conversations with a new department (the people that we know and had been dealing with now no longer want anything to do with us we must talk to the deposits team) we still have no rent. Not until I challenged the person I am dealing with by saying I would take the issues to a manager that things have progressed. Each conversation something different has been said to me, and each time excuses have been made to try and backtrack So, 4 weeks on, the landlord has decided he wants to get quotes for cleaning, and apparently has no time limit in which to do so - we already know (as the website shows) that the property has already been let, and has already had a painter and decorator in (how are we supposed to fairly dispute now). We have not been told what the cleaning issues are so have no idea why this is the case. When asked no information has been given. In conclusion stay away from Bridgfords Newcastle under Lyme. You will only be left disappointed.


What agent could do to change your mind?

The ONLY person who was any help whatsoever was Emily Hughes, she is possibly the only person i would ever want to deal with from this agency (and in fact do, but i am being forced to deal with the deposits team)

for how many issues we have faced, and things not working as they should have been, AND the fact we paid all our rent on time, everytime without fail for them to dispute anything for the deposit is nothing short of insulting

Fees were vastly inflated and not communicated, staff completed the contract on our behalf, so we didn;t know they'd agreed to higher commision fees based on asking price not selling price

Appalling service. As a landlord their fees are extortionate. Their service levels are dreadful. They never call back when phoned and e-mails are not responded to promptly. It feels like every statement or promise made is broken or simply wrong. Signed leases not signed, deposit not passed to me to submit to a deposit scheme 3 weeks after the lease date. Not cheap but if you get a great service it would be fair value. Given the terrible service the fees are extortionate.
