Established in 1991 from a single branch in Altrincham, today Thornley Groves has 8 offices, employs 80 staff, sells £250m of property per annum, handles over 3,000 lets and manages more than 1,400 properties for landlords across Central Manchester and South Manchester.
The business was founded in 1991 in Altrinc
ham by Michael Groves who opened a second office in 1993 in Hale Village. The third office was opened in 1995 when the firm’s Operations Director and joint shareholder, Jason Watkin, joined and invested in the company.
In the year 2000, the 3 office firm expanded into Manchester’s burgeoning city centre residential property market where it quickly expanded, opening new city centre branches in the various residential quarters of the city centre. The firm now boasts a total of 4 offices in the city centre itself, bringing the firm’s total to 8. Originally the firm handled residential sales only. In 1995 the firm commenced dealing with residential lettings and property management, which now accounts for 50% of our total income.
Our state of the art office on John Dalton Street is the most modern and innovative in Manchester with a 12′ high video wall showcasing our services and giving our properties and developments the highest possible profile. Its location, just off Deansgate and close to the Spinningfields Development, has been chosen to take advantage of the increased footfall in this area of Manchester.
Despite the business’s expansion, the Company is still very much an independent enterprise managed in a very hands-on way by its two owners, Jason Watkin and Michael Groves.

I do not understand how Thornley Groves cannot be held to account for letting property of this standard. As a landlord myself, in my opinion, if you wouldn't live in a property yourself, then you should not be letting it to tenants. Thornley Groves should be ashamed of themselves, and the effect that their (lack of) action have on their tenants.

They invariably weren't, unless it was to tell me that it wasn't their problem (usually mine or the management company).

View your deposit as an extra fee, they will do everything in their power to claw it off you at the end of the tenancy, including in my case trying to charge for damage that was clearly evidenced in their own photos from the start of the lease.
No consistent contact, a different agent each time. Some were professional and pleasant, others extremely disrespectful. Considering the exorbitant price of renting, the least I expect is that basic customer service norms are met. I don't review stuff, can't be bothered, but I'll make an exception this time. Go with someone else if it's at all possible, in my experience renting is usually pretty miserable but TG really hit a new low.

As of yet we still have not received the undisputed amounts of our deposit, 6 weeks later and counting. This is a large amount of money to be waiting for (~£1600). Also, like any agent, their fees are way too much for the service they provide.

1) since the visit of the apartment (before to sign the contract) i specifically asked to repair a seat toilet and it was told me that the repair would have been done. (I waited 5 months and dozens of email and call before the work was done)
2) at some point something broke in the shower basement due to a serious damage and some leakage and I was asked to not use it before to be repaired. ( i waited 21 days before the work was starting and I needed to call them, several times because: 1) the first contractor was too expensive and they were not contacting a new one: 2) the new one was not planning the time to do the work and they were not pushing him or just changing contractor; 3) they needed to find a new one. the main problem is that they always need my input to do another step and sometime they were just saying to me, someone will contact you in few minutes and none systematically was calling back)
3) I asked, after all these inconvenience to get a discount for the rent of the next month and, after 6 emails I was able to get an answer from them (you can imagine the answer already).
I have been probably very unlucky with the landlord, but also in case the landlord was agreed to do the job, the agency was terrible negligent. NOT recommended at all.
Despite the landlord may not be the best person, my complain and negative review is referred to the letting agency because they were not of any support in the abovementioned problems. The always need me to ask if there were any progress and only after that they were taking some action.

Extremely frustrating for us as we are struggling to find a property that fits our criteria, we are now running out of time and this appeared perfect for us. I made an appointment with one of their letting agents to view a few apartments in Manchester, I arrived from London only to visit these properties and about 45 minutes before our appointment, the agent called me to cancel all the viewings (apart one flat) because the apartments were no longer available.
I spent about 300 GBP (flight and taxi journeys) to go from London to Manchester.
They advised me that the viewings had been cancelled too late.
Very disappointing and absolutely unprofessional.
Honestly i would not recommend this real estate agency.
