First time renters. Agents were very friendly and helpful. Process was quick and smooth with no issues and quick responses. Referencing was easy and quick. Setting up of utilities was also very easy. First time renters. Agents were very friendly and helpful. Process was quick and smooth with no issues and quick responses. Referencing was easy and quick. Setting up of utilities was also very easy. Rented an apartment from the Chippenham office and had nothing but problems trying to get maintenance done and it was not fit to live in when they handed the keys over, now I have left I'm still trying to get my deposit back which they are holding as they have made an admission error,... Rented an apartment from the Chippenham office and had nothing but problems trying to get maintenance done and it was not fit to live in when they handed the keys over, now I have left I'm still trying to get my deposit back which they are holding as they have made an admission error, nobody answers emails or sorts anything out they just ignore messages and even dismissed my request to move my deposit , really unacceptable service

Zero stars (not even 1). I have had a truly shocking experience as a landlord and will not recommend these agents to anyone. Avoid at all costs - Rip off merchants looking to line their pockets at the expense of others.
Was looking for my first place, thought I had found a nice 2 bed house with no strings attached. Looked okay, needed a bit of TLC, fairly priced with the monthly rates. So I said I'd have it.
The agent muttered a figure for the fee's we'd have to pay - I thought to myself, haha he didn't mean that. He's obviously tired, however, later I asked for a breakdown of the fees I'd have to pay to move in - Nope, turns out he really did say that figure.
Absolutely ridiculous what they charge, and all before you even get in the bloody door. Literally twice as expensive as a well known Agent such as Strakers. Absolutely will never be dealing with these rip off merchants ever again. I should have read the reviews before I booked a viewing.
Save your time and your money. Go else where.

I will never ever use Chappell and Matthews again. My boyfriend and I rented a flat through a landlord who went through Chappell and Matthews and they are all as bad as each other. They say they will contacted you back but never do. Whilst living in he flat we had no hot water for 2 months and we also had damp and mould growing in the bedroom due to an over grown greenery on the other side of the wall. After asking chappell and matthews to contact the landlord 6 time to sort the problem we finally asked for a early release because I am pregnant and couldnt live in those conditions. Hot running water is the minimal requirement when renting a property. Chappell and matthews promised us all 6 times they would sort the problem but when we moved out early it still was not sorted. After moving out we had a fight to get out deposit back, they would give us every excuse under the sun to keep gold of our money. After 4 weeks I went to see chappell and matthews in Bath whilst I was at work and asked them for their head office number so I Could sort it myself, the guy asked if he could help as he would be managing Chippenham store from December. . I told him everything and he said he would sort it for me.. he said he would contact head office that day and then email me that afternoon to let me know what they say. I never received an email but he did phone me 2 days later to say he had spoken to head office and the money would be in my bank within 2 to 5 working days. Why did it take someone from another branch to sort this for me? And I still haven't heard from chappell and matthews in Chippenham so if I had not gone to the bath shop I would probably still be waiting.
