I honestly don’t even know where to start. We’ve had Dan’s flat on the market with Fox & Sons Gosport since 23rd October and it’s just been one disappointment after another. The place was tenanted at the time so I get that the agent couldn’t control the mess, but the photos they took were just awful.. and I don’t just mean the state of the flat. The actual quality of the photos was terrible. No care, no effort, nothing remotely creative. It feels like they just turned up, snapped a few pics and left. Now the tenants have moved out (30th Nov) they’re supposed to be retaking them, but honestly I’m not even confident the ones will be any better. We’ve had zero viewings since the property went live. Not one. And when Dan asked about doing a video walkthrough (which other agents seem to offer easily and professionally), the agent basically said they don’t really do that. No explanation, just reluctance. Why is nobody trying? Why is there no push? I had a flat on the market with Lawson Rose a few years ago and they were brilliant.. they even recommended Fox & Sons in Gosport because they don’t cover the area, and I’m honestly shocked at the difference in service. To make it worse, they got the number of bathrooms wrong on the listing (said it had one, when it actually has a family bathroom AND an ensuite). How does that even happen? Around 3 weeks in, they were already telling us to drop the price… even though the flat is only on the market £10k more than it was bought in 2018. Then last week they suggested we put it through iamsold at auction. It honestly felt like they were brushing us aside. Auction is quicker but at what cost? It didn’t feel like something in our best interests at all.. more like what was easiest them. They still get their fees either way so where’s the motivation to actually sell it properly? I spoke to Alex a couple of weeks ago and all I got was a load of “stats” read off a script. Dan rang and got the exact same speech. No real advice, no real plan. Just generic lines. We even asked we could bring in another agent alongside them (Charters), but apparently that’s not allowed under their T&Cs. Honestly though, I don’t feel like they’re doing much us anyway so I don’t really see how this setup benefits us. I’m really disappointed. I genuinely thought they’d be better than this and right now I don’t feel like they care whether the flat sells or not.

The Property Ombudsman has a clear code of practice. This was not followed when Fox & Sons took money over the phone as a holding deposit - they did not warn about fees and tried to keep some of the money when the landlord turned down application. Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
