Overall the experience of purchasing a property through Owen Lyon’s was ok. Alex was a great help and went over and above to help move things along - with what was a very long and difficult chain. The other people I spoke to were fine also. HOWEVER, Colin Owen’s (presumably the founder of the company given the name) was incredibly rude to me and my partner. I remained calm and polite during the call but as soon as Colin heard something he didn’t like the sound of, he through a tantrum. He put the phone down on me and when my partner called afterwards, he did the same to him. He said “if you don’t like it, take your business elsewhere”. That’s all well and good Colin, but when you’re six months into a purchase, consumers tend to have invested a lot of time and effort. So a suggestion to “take your business elsewhere” is about as dumb as it sounds. Especially when it’s coming from the founder. Colin let his whole team down that day, especially Alex who’d worked hard to build trust and a rapport with us. Had Colin behaved professionally I would’ve given this review four or five stars AND, more importantly, used Owen Lyon’s if/when I come to sell the house I just purchased. Our vendors said they’d had similar experiences with Colin so it seems his tantrums are a fairly regular thing. Such a shame really as he’s letting the rest of his team down, who were all really helpful.
