I used Halls because I assumed, wrongly, that I would find a level of professionalism that would ensure the landlord would be within the law. I ended up with landlords that were not licensed, a property that had never been registered as a rental property, a home (I use the term very loosely) that had a water supply that smelt of heating oil, a garden that turned into a waterfall when it rained heavily, gutters so blocked that the water flowed over the top instead of down the pipes, a landlord who rang me late at night/in the early hours to demand that I switched my light out and who became abusive because I contacted environmental health about the property. When I wrote to Halls they held me in such contempt that they did not even bother to sign the letter of response, or to put a name at the bottom so that I knew who within the company had written to me. No wonder estate agents get a bad name.
