Dowens was responsible for 2 months of anguish. They moved us into a rental property in Sedgefield without completing a proper inspection and were dishonest in their approach. When we received the keys the place was utterly filthy, despite us having just signed a contract saying that the property must be received and returned in a standard of professional cleanliness. The boiler didn't work and there were numerous issues with gas, plumbing, electricity and basic safety problems. There were large areas of damp that hadn't been addressed, despite the previous tenant raising concerns. We informed Ryan and Amanda of all the repair problems and the state of the property and, although they are both nice people, they demonstatrated a shocking degree of unprofessionalism and incompetence. We received a few emergency repairs to the boiler and locks to the front door but all the other issues, (including water leaking above the fuse box!) were ignored. They made so many excuses and whilst they were dealing with a difficult landlord, that doesn't excuse the poor way in which they managed (or didn't manage) the property. Thankfully we received a refund of our bond and first months rent, but this was too little too late! We were forced to seek help from citizen's advice and obtain a legal exit from our contract as we felt we had no choice but to find somewhere else to live in order to protect our wellbeing. They assured us that the property would not be marketed again in its current condition, only for them to return it to the rental market straight after we returned the keys. Clearly they have not done anything about the leaking roof or other repair issues! I cannot describe the amount of stress and heartbreak we have been through because they couldn't do their jobs properly. We feel as though we have a duty to write an honest review as we don't want someone else to suffer through the same experience.
