Clearly I was very desperate trying to use Hackney and Leigh again to rent a property in Kendal and the surrounding areas. I make such a comment because in 2011/2012 when I registered with the estate agents I declared I was a single parent with one small child. I knew it was a mistake as soon as I uttered the words. Each and every time thereafter when I tried to arrange a viewing of a property I never succeeded, despite the fact that I am highly qualified and earn a good salary. The upshot was I used a different agency, which did not blatantly discriminate against single women with child/ren. In 2016, I returned to this agency to source alternative housing as my tenancy was nearing its end. This time I am pregnant and have just experienced discrimination under the 2010 Equality Act when one of their landlords whom I met made the most disdainful and offensive snide remarks about my pregnancy and then refused to lease her property to me - as this occurred through an estate agency, Hackney and Leigh are responsible. I seriously suggest this horrible estate agency check legislation on the 2010 Equality Act before they are sued!!!!! I suggest any single parents out there or those women who are pregnant find an alternative estate agency or simply withhold such personal information. I find it absolutely incredulous that Hackney and Leigh are engaging in such conduct.
