I'm not generally in the business of leaving bad reviews but this company really are awful. Firstly, I'd imagine we are some of the best tenants a landlord could hope for. Both professional people while my partner is bordering on ocd when it comes to cleanliness. We rented for almost 2 years and always paid on time and only had to make contact a couple of times to sort issues out. Whenever you do contact them they are plain rude as others have said and will mostly just ignore you. They lie and make it sound like it's your fault whenever you chase. I don't think I've ever had to give a single company my email address as many times as Dorset lettings have asked for mine yet emails still aren't forthcoming. They make out they are very professional to begin with but I would stress they are the only agents that have ever left me without a gas certificate, and did so for some months. We moved out 26th June and today is 15th July and we still haven't had a penny of our deposit back. It's the 5th property I've rented through an agent and the first time anyone has made any deductions. They only want to deduct 70 for what I would call some very very minor things but having paid 10s of thousands in rent over 2 years it leaves you with a very bitter taste. They made no allowances for wear and tear at all and the invoice they have sent me for the additional cleaning is definitely fake. I know this as its dated the same day as the inventory check was done yet says it was quoted prior. I also know from an old neighbour that no one visited the property that day. With the things that allegedly needed doing on the inventory you would be looking at 1 hour max anyway so the charge is extortionate. We left the place immaculate. After seeking advice we agreed to the deductions anyway as any deductions less than 100 will cost us money to appeal which is something they clearly exploit. In spite of this we are still waiting for the cheque for the remainder of the deposit. The fact we are still waiting is either testament to their unprofessionalism or their maliciousness whatever way you look at it. I tried to be as amenable as possible when it came to viewings once we'd given notice, even letting them do one with less than 10mins notice. They on the other hand would arrange other viewings and then just not turn up, at the end of one of the viewings I went round the property with one of the agents showing a few areas of concern to try and ensure we left the property in good condition. She agreed with me on a lot of the issues and was going to speak to the property manager who I never heard from apart from a generic letter telling me we were contractually obliged to have the carpets and the oven professionally cleaned and provide receipts (on checking our contract we weren't). So in the end we repainted half the property ourselves - This shows the extent we went to to make sure the property was left in good condition yet Dorset lettings don't even have the courtesy to respond to any kind of enquiry. Landlords should avoid as good tenants don't rent from them twice, especially as their fees are by far the highest in the area for tenants to begin with.

11 Jun 2016Dorset Lettings as a company is to be avoided at all costs. It is a Franchise and one of its Franchisee's is serving a 32 month prison sentence (BBC website) for fraudulently using £325,000 of tenants deposits and clients monies for her own gain. Their greed is unbelievable, and their professionalism is non-existent. Do not rent from this company unless you have deep pockets and are prepared to say goodbye to your hard earned money, they will take it from you whether they or the landlord have earned it or not.

18 Jul 2017Your deposit should be held in a Deposit Protection Scheme and it is they who should return the deposit to you. If the landlord disputes the amount then you have a chance to respond. I don;t understand why the cheque was sent back via the Landlord? That is the whole idea of these Deposit Protection Schemes.

25 Jul 2017I never said the cheque came from the landlord. At the time of writing the review I was still waiting for my deposit. Just like many other similar reviewers on here. We did get it back in the end minus the ridiculous deductions justified by a fake cleaning invoice from a company whose phone number didn't work and the address didn't exist that was dated before we'd even moved out. These agents are criminal. Staff members have been jailed for their dishonesty at this company - just google "Dorset Lettings Janine "and see what comes up. Any landlord considering renting a property through this company should also consider that this agency was responsible for the the largest ever claim for fraud through the ARLA scheme. DO NOT USE DORSET LETTINGS _ YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

These clowns deserve zero stars for the appalling way they treated my 63 year old dad. Sending him on a 6 hour round trip, costing him £25 to view an unsuitable property. He enquired about a leasehold property and was told pets were accepted. He specifically requested if this was a... Read Full Review

I arranged with Jennifer to view a property and on the day, which was last Tuesday, I arrived with a friend. When “Jennifer” arrived she got out of her car, did not greet us just smiled and did not acknowledge my friend when I introduced her, just a nod. At this point it turned out that “Jennifer” ... Totally unhelpful, unsupportive, and left us really deflated after renting a property through these agents. We were under the impression that we'd have some backup if there were any disagreements with the landlord, however they made no effort to help us with our concerns, directing us back to... Ask about what support they will offer if there are discrepancies in the future. To which they should reply \'we\'d be totally useless\'

Phoned this agent today, to view a property. The agent didn't introduce themselves, and gave a hostile attitude throughout the call, tried to arrange a viewing, however was told they only work until 4.45pm, when questioned how a professional working person (one of the many intrusive questions... Learn some customer service skills, you may well have had some bad tenants, renting your properties but that does mean all tenants will behave this way. Take the massive chip off your shoulder with new customers, luckily there are plenty more agents out there.
Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
No procedure set.
