Having viewed the house 3 times we were set to buy. WE dug deep and came up with a cracking offer. The Agent called to tell us we were the preferred bidder at 12.20 pm if we could agree terms. We agreed to pay a deposit to secure longer entry date. Came back asking if we could take earlier entry date. Agreed to that. He then called back to say they wanted a deposit as well. As this is not the way business is generally done in Scotland I said I couldnt sanction that until I had spoken to my husband and he was uncontactable for the rest of the afternoon as we thought the deal had been done. During the next few hours called me over a dozen times - this is on the log on my mobile phone - becoming increasingly belligerent. It transpired he was on holiday, looking after his 3 kids. During this time his phone ran out of charge, he phoned from his friends phone constantly, from bars, street theatre in the centre of Edinburgh Festival. I couldn't hear what he was saying he kept being cut off. I asked him to speak to my lawyer, my lawyer asked him to speak to her, but he ignored that and continued to harass and harangue me until 6pm at which point he had failed to return our lawyers calls. Our lawyer who had our revised offer. We dropped a note into the seller saying we were despite the communication difficulties due to mobiles and holidays we were delighted to be the highest bidder and would be in their office at 9am to sign the deal. At 7.30am on Monday my husband sent an email telling `the Agent we would be there at 9am at which point he told us he had given it to the other party. When? After 6pm on a Friday night? He had not called our lawyer back, thus not heard our revised offer which was with our lawyer and thus he was going to his client without hearing what we had to say e.g. the best offer. Unethical, unacceptable, bullying and dishonest. I will make a point of telling anyone I ever meet never to do business with this man who is clearly out of control and having done a good deal of research subsequently seems has a reputation underlining this is not the first nor the last time he will run rough shod over both sellers and buyers.
