Established in 1991 from a single branch in Altrincham, today Thornley Groves has 8 offices, employs 80 staff, sells £250m of property per annum, handles over 3,000 lets and manages more than 1,400 properties for landlords across Central Manchester and South Manchester.
The business was founded in 1991 in Altrinc
ham by Michael Groves who opened a second office in 1993 in Hale Village. The third office was opened in 1995 when the firm’s Operations Director and joint shareholder, Jason Watkin, joined and invested in the company.
In the year 2000, the 3 office firm expanded into Manchester’s burgeoning city centre residential property market where it quickly expanded, opening new city centre branches in the various residential quarters of the city centre. The firm now boasts a total of 4 offices in the city centre itself, bringing the firm’s total to 8. Originally the firm handled residential sales only. In 1995 the firm commenced dealing with residential lettings and property management, which now accounts for 50% of our total income.
Our state of the art office on John Dalton Street is the most modern and innovative in Manchester with a 12′ high video wall showcasing our services and giving our properties and developments the highest possible profile. Its location, just off Deansgate and close to the Spinningfields Development, has been chosen to take advantage of the increased footfall in this area of Manchester.
Despite the business’s expansion, the Company is still very much an independent enterprise managed in a very hands-on way by its two owners, Jason Watkin and Michael Groves.

I would also like to commend Oliver Gallagher who also works at the Urmston branch. He has updated me every single step of the way and there have been a few pitfalls and hurdles to get over, having said that Oliver has been a star and actually got me a sale on the property I am buying now by being honest and straight talking when agreeing a price on the property.
I would recommend using Thornley Groves to anyone. They have really impressed me (Im very hard to please!).

We first met Oliver when we viewed the property we are currently buying. He showed us round the property and was professional with his advice and approach. We were certainly keen on the house after our visit and went back on a couple of occasions to speak with the owner which made us more convinced. As our own property wasn't on the market at that time, and having been impressed with Oliver, we decided to put our house on the market with Thornley Groves. In order to have any chance of buying the property we wanted, we knew we needed a quick sale. We met with Oliver and Mark Latham at the Thornley Groves office in Urmston to talk through the options. They suggested an open house to get a lot of people to see the house in a short amount of time. The date was set within 2 weeks and on the day Oliver and Mark showed over 15 interested parties around the house. Within a few hours we had a number of offers at asking price. We decided on the buyer in the best position, and through Oliver, we were able to negotiate a deal on the house we wanted to buy before the day was out. We couldn't have been more happy with how it went. Since then Oliver has been in constant communication with updates and requests for information. With a number of people in the chain it wasn't surpising to have one set back, when our buyer lost their buyer, but within a fortnight Oliver and the guys at Thornley Groves were able to put their property back on the market and sell it. This is testament to how quickly they respond to issues that arise. It only set us back a few weeks and throughout that time we have been fully informed on everything. Now at the end of the process we're very thankful to Oliver, Mark and the team for helping us get the home we've always wanted. We can certainly recommend them to anyone thinking of buying or selling a home.

Mark, the manager, was very helpful in putting our offer to the owners at 8.30am, before the shop opened, and Oliver we very consistent in keeping us up to date and letting us know what was going on.
Overall, it took 6 weeks and 1 day from the initial viewing to completion, and we are both very pleased that the purchase went so smoothly!

We sold our home through thornley groves in Urmston. The first meeting with Mark went very well. He came prepared with comparison information for us and was very informative in his review of the current market. He talked us through the process and responded promptly in correspondence with him. The viewings were dealt with by the staff at TG and feedback was prompt and informative. During the selling process we dealt with Holly who was superb. She dealt with all our issues and communicated effectively between us and our buyer, often smoothing out problems by spending hours on the phone to other agents in the chain. She was very professional and worked very hard on our behalf.

Samantha was outstanding in her delivery from start to finish.
On meeting her, her presentation, introduction to the property and communication were amazing. Sam was always on hand to deal with any calls or queries and would respond to me In a timely manner leaving messages if necessary. I can not fault the service that Sam has provided and would be more than happy to use Thornley Groves again. Samantha is an excellent sales woman and has great customer service skills. If I am totally honest if it wasn't for her I may not have gone for this particular house. She convinced us it could make a lovely home for me and my family and she was right.
As we had been stung by another property company in the area Thornley Groves gave me more than enough confidence in them delivering the correct, helpful information on our property. I can not praise them enough.
