Very poor service. I would avoid them at all costs. They do not respond to emails. I have a tenant who moved out not paying the last months rent and they have yet to release the tenant's deposit. I had to contact them before they revealed that the tenant has left the country and will not be paying the arrears. Even after agreeing to absorb the costs of cleaning the property they have not released the deposit. I would absolutely not recommend them.

To be avoided at all costs. They hide behind every cock-and-bull excuse in order not to get work done (Electric gates took over 2 months), do not fulfil all the work required under the terms of the lease (roof inspection etc.) and do not tender work to 3 contractors as required by lease. enabling them to use their preferred contractors and maximise their commission on work. The communicate only with one director, who in turn never communicates with residents and no full annual accounts have ever been produced. This company has no moral integrity and will let your property fall into disrepair until things get critical and cost much more to fix. If you are considering using them I urge you to save yourself a lot of misery - don't do it.

What a completely frustrating two years at this property. This Stephen Christopher promised to sort out the council tax and utility bills and to be fair he did do the council tax. The utility bills were supposedly transferred but with no information as to who the new service provider was or when we would get the bill. After three months of moving in and not receiving any utility bills, I contacted Stephen Christopher to ask about the status of the utility bills. I was told that due to a dispute with previous service providers they had been unable to start the meter readings. After struggling for a whole year I was finally able to receive a utility bill after contacting the energy company myself. In addition, countrywide failed to adequately fix a significant problem with damp in the house, didn't fix the plumbing issues in the bathroom or repair the main door after it was damaged. These problems were left unresolved over the course of the two years that we stayed at the property

Back in 2006, I was on a joint tenancy with two others, under an AST with fixed term for one year.
On the eighth month, I put in a notice to leave the contract due to problems with my flatmates. There was this option to surrender the contract with every party's agreement, but Countrywide Croydon branch staff failed to do it. Failing that, the notice should have served as an adequate one to terminate the contract at the end of the fixed term.
However, Countrywide Croydon branch failed to terminate the contract upon repeated request, withholding my deposit and dragging me into the rolling period of the contract involuntarily. Their argument was that the contract was still running because ''tenants have still not moved out'' in the tenancy contract.
On this, I took Countrywide to the small claim court for my deposit. I lost the claim because the judge thought that this punitive clause is in effect. IN REALITY, IT WAS COUNTRYWIDE'S NEGLIGENCE WHICH LED TO THE TENANTS STILL BEING IN THERE, INSTEAD OF THE INADEQUECIES OF MY NOTICE.
This experience lasted for more than one year into early 2008. After the court case, I received Countrywide's letter on rent in arrears on my flatmates. I was dragged in because I was jointly and severally liable. Somehow, their solicitor called me and asked if I put in a notice to leave, to which of course I replied with a yes. They eventually dropped the court case.
Since this extremely obnoxious and pointless incident, I have started to sign the contract with landlords instead. I have never come across any problems with deposits and tenancy terms since then.
STEER CLEAR OF COUNTRYWIDE.

What agent could do to change your mind?
Courtesy, kindness, understanding and respect when dealing with us would have made every situation better. Unfortunately, the damage has been done now, and nothing that the agency can or will do can sway our opinion.

This agency is abysmal. My friend and I rent a property through one of their agents, King and Chasemore, based in Crawley, West Sussex. They are unwilling to help, never return our phone calls and generally treat us with disdain whenever we do contact them, whether the matter is regarding an issue with the property or if we simply require information from them. They are the most discourteous people I have ever come across, and their customer service skills are practically non-existent. We have had several issues with the property, the main one being that for four months during 2009 we had hardly any hot water. After contacting the agency time and time again, it took to us having to physically go into the King and Chasemore branch in Crawley town centre to speak to someone face to face about the issues. The reception we received from the Branch Manager was absolutely deplorable. I was disgusted by the way we were spoken to, and the Property Maintenance Manager was equally as reprehensible. I was so offended by the way that we had been treated I emailed them the next day expressing my disappointment. What followed shocked me even more. The Branch Manager phoned me later that day after reading my email, and instead of apologising for her actions, took to getting into another disagreement about the way I felt. The conversation lasted for twenty minutes with the Manager defending her actions. She never once apologised. I made her aware that I would not recommend anyone to use this agency, and I would absolutely ensure that I recommended people to stay away from them. At the moment our washing machine has now broken for the third time this year. Each time we have contacted them to report this particular fault, they have treated us like incompetent children, telling us in the most patronising tone they can muster how to operate the simple machine. Last time it broke we were without a washing machine for well over a week, and they only deemed it necessary to send someone out to fix it when I contacted them and informed them if they failed to fix it, they could deduct the cost of laundering our clothes professionally from our rent for that month. This agency is incompetent, unskilled and seriously lacking in compassion and customer service skills. Stay away!
