I was a student, living in a 5 bed student house in fawcett road, southsea. Tully's made my second year of uni hell! We were advised that as they were the lettings agency, any problems we has would need to go through them, rather than the landlord directly. The day I arrived to get my key (time and date we checked with a staff member who assured us it was fine) we were told,after travelling all the way to Portsmouth, that we were too late to get the key by 5mins (this was 1pm). A female staff member actually pushed my mum out of the door (my mum is a polite and petite woman) The whole manner was completely rude! Another member of staff apologised for her behaviour and gave us the key. In our first 3 months of living there we had no heating! We advised Tully's of this by going directly into the agency (in writing as they advised us) and numerous phone calls and emails. We were told they were having trouble contacting the Landlord... for 3 months! They did nothing to compensate for this at all. Shortly after this our house was burgled, and where the front door had been kicked in it didn't close. We went to Tully's who were no use at all! Some empathy from them was maybe a little too much to expect, however we did expect them to sort our door (or contact the Landlord) this apparently was of no concern to them. We were never allowed to have the Landlords details so could not try to contact them ourselves. We had to pay for our own front door to be replaced. We had various problems with the shower, Broken oven etc which we were advised before renting would be taken care of before we moved in...they weren't touched the whole year! We kept the place tidy and did a very thorough clean before we left...yet we did not receive our deposits. Due to 'worn carpets'. These carpets were worn a long time before we moved in! We argued (in writing) this for months, got nowhere with them and never received our deposits back Generally I find Tully's extremely rude and unhelpful. Even though they have several student properties they don't have any patience with students at all. As soon as you walk into the building they are immediately annoyed and angry with you. They have no respect for people and disregard anything you have to say. I was warned about Tully's before this, but originally really liked the size of the house so stupidly signed up. Please don't do it! It's not worth it and you will regret it!

25 Jun 2014Thanks for your backhanded way of calling me a liar there, but no I'm not at all confused thank you. I'm obviously not living there now. I said, 'when I was in my second year of uni' so maybe you don't have a house in fawcett rd at the moment: although I find it very hard to believe that you don't have any houses in one of the biggest residential roads in Southsea! Absolutely everything in my previous comment is true. Also, why u would try to dispute this when myself and the 4 others I lived with have all our documents to show we lived the, is literally beyond me. I lived at 299 fawcett Road, which I can assure you is a 5bed house and I can't believe I have just been called a liar.! I only posted this as my sister was looking into student agencies and I wanted to make her and her friends aware. Now though, I want everyone to know how unhelpful and rude you are before they make the same mistake as me. If this prevents just one person from having to go through the same as me, then it's been worthwhile!

14 Aug 2014Dear Amelia, Firstly I am so sorry you feel so angry. I am afraid I will have to refute your comments. You state that you did not receive your deposits back, as this is a very slanderous comment I believe you should produce evidence to prove this, we have proof that all of your deposits were returned in full to all of you on 14-7-2009. We are a professional business and our records are extensive and luckily are kept for 6 years in accordance with the law as your occupation of the property was 6 years ago, however we do keep electronic records for longer. These electronic records clearly show that every maintenance issue was dealt with when reported including no heating and a new lock for the front door and making sure it was secure after you had been burgled. On 20-3-08 it was reported that the radiators were not getting hot and the water was only luke warm, Tyrone Guy (a gas safe registered engineer) was sent and the remedy was a mechanical clean at a cost of £137.48, the job was completed by 25-03-08. On the 08-12-08 you reported that you had been burgled and a job sheet was given to Pretty as a picture (please repair double glazed front door and windows, as tenants were burgled at the weekend) the cost of the repair was £210.00 and I believe that the front door has not changed from that day to this. It is clear you seem to be angry with us (even after 6 years) but I am at a loss as to why as none of what you have said appears to be true and the evidence is there to prove this. Although we only act as agents for landlords and do not actually own the properties we look after we do however endeavour to ensure that the properties we rent out are in a decent condition for any tenants wishing to rent them. We will always make sure that the tenants Statutory rights and the Landlords Statutory obligations are up held.

They have a lot of hidden charges such as silly admin fees of like £80, and the money you are almost guaranteed to lose from your deposit makes their fees even worse!

Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
