[[EDIT ORIGINAL START]] I have just finished a tenancy with City Life Group, and cannot emphasise how much I would warn people against renting through them. Upon claiming my deposit back, I received demands to prove that utility bills had been paid. I disputed this as the agent is not liable for what is a contractual agreement between me and the utility companies. I received no response to my email, and so called them once the 10 working days was nearly up to ask about progress. I was told by the member of staff who answered that he did not have time to deal with me, and he hung up on me whilst I was speaking, and repeatedly cancelled every call I attempted to make that afternoon. This led me to visit their office, where I was told by a member of staff "I don't care about your deposit", "You have no business talking to me", and to "Just go". I was told the Director would deal with my enquiry the next day. On my next visit, I was shown the same level of disregard by the Director, called a "prat", told that I "enjoy being a prat", and told to "f*ck off out the office", simply for wanting written information about what was happening with my deposit. I was also complained at for requesting a copy of the protection certificate for my deposit, which had never been provided to me. I was told it may not be protected, and was told "You come in here like you know something, when you don't know anything" when I mentioned the legal obligation to have protected it. I eventually left the office when they threatened to call the police for "disturbing" their work, despite my visit being entirely related to their business. The following week, I received an email from a different member of staff, Abbi, (whose pleasant customer service more than makes up for anyone else I'd dealt with there) asking where I would like my deposit sent to, just before I filed a dispute with TDS. The customer service provided by most of the staff at City Life Group was simply rude, ignorant and offensive, and I believe (and was told by them) that it was due to the fact that I was no longer a tenant and so wasn't their customer any more (despite having paid them nearly £16,000 in rent over two years!). If you want an easy ride when reclaiming your deposit, and staff who know how to talk to a human being with any level of decency, DO NOT rent from City Life Group. I can only speak for my own experience but they were great for me- a very personal experience. I did witness some of the 'dark side' mentioned in other reviews here towards other customers, but yer man is a good guy- just don't mess him around. For example, with the bills, its perfectly ... City Life are the type of letting agents that give the industry a bad name - dishonest and incompetent. It is now two months after the end of our tenancy, and not one penny of the deposit has been returned, following hours on the phone to them, in clear breach of the conditions of the Tenancy ... They could and should have returned the deposit promptly, rather than holding on to it (all of it, not just the small percentage that was in dispute) for months. They are dishonest, incompetent and plain rude - the worst company it has been my misfortune to deal with for many years. Alex and Rasheed are particularly obnoxious.
Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
