We had nothing shy of a terrible experience working with them. We had our first issue even before we got inside the property on move in day. We were given a bills package, only for us to get to Nottingham, and we were given top up keys and we had to top up our meter while still having to pay the bills package. We were blindsided and told at the last minute. 1. Every bathroom had dried urine stains all around the toilets, sawdust all over the floors and paint stains. When we asked for it to be cleaned, it took them so long to get anything done, in the end one of our mums came and deep cleaned the bathrooms. 2. The windows were installed with no restrictors, causing them the swing open and be stuck. We were then told we were opening the windows wrong. There is only one way to open a window, how can you incorrectly open a window? 3. The door handles were falling off at least 3 of the doors due to inadequate screws being used. 4. We had no bins for the first few weeks. 5. The house had rats in it from before we moved in, due to a broken stair outside, when I raised concerns in the group chat with CL I was ignored bearing in mind, we moved in August 1st. When they finally came to close the holes, and lay rat traps (31/08), we were left with a dead rat under the kitchen sink until 10/09. 6. The floor was unlevelled causing tenants to trip and fall every time they walked through the corridor (this still has not been fixed since the floorboards were taken out) 7. The plumbing was ridiculous, room 1, was flooded, with sewage that was coming out of not only the toilet, but my shower as well, and it was left like that for 2 weeks, forcing me to stay somewhere else. They finally sent out two cleaners… they did nothing in the room except move my stuff around, then I had to wait for different cleaners to come and sort out the room. After several complaints, I was compensated £40 after not having the room I was renting for a 2 weeks, baring in mind, one month's rent was £586.50, so I should've been compensated £293.25. When I complained that my room was inhabitable, CL said I could still sleep in there… in fact, look at the images and let me know if you could stay in a room like this. Then after this, CL had the audacity to say that the tenants had to pay for the damages, when in fact the maintenance man, told me and sent me a message saying that he cannot see what could've caused a blockage in the piping. When I bought this up to tell them I won't be paying for something I had nothing to do with, they still tried to insist that I would have to pay for it until I managed to get the maintenance man to speak to them. 9. Room 1, 2, 5 and 6 all had leaking showers and sinks. Upon our many complaints, all of us were often ignored or given a half-assed response as to what they were going to do. At one point, we could not use the showers, or kitchen sink for few days due to plumbing issues. The staff at CL are unprofessional to ay the least. As part of our tenancy agreement, we are supposed to have 24 hours' notice before the landlord, or anyone the landlord is sending comes to the property. On SEVERAL occasions, this clause was broken, we had random men walking in and out of the house with no warning. At one point, 3 grown men moved into the house, and when we asked CL about why were weren't notified, they said they didn't know? How can you manage a property, and you never knew 3 men were moving into the house? I started doing nails in my bedroom to make extra money (Yes I did break a clause in my tenancy but really I didn't care anymore) and if you see how fast they were to let me know what I was doing was wrong, but when I called them out about their breaks in the clause I was ignored, and none of the 3 tenants that were left were acknowledged or even apologized to. There are other online testimonials of other students complaining about the same things that I have stated here in terms of messing you about because you're a student. So a warning to all the future students looking to rent from CL, run.
