Dirty, Mouldy, gross. Came for a viewing as a new student tenant. Honestly a really disgusting accomodation. This is an accom which is for students AND the public. So you can imagine the kinds of people there. This wasn’t advertised online. I booked a viewing so I will explain my thoughts. We arrived at the location and couldn’t find the entrance. We asked a man mid 30s playing football if he knows where it is, he said Yes I live here (#1 surely that’s post grad age… why are you living in a student accom? ?) and just go to that white van there. He pointed to a white van across the road and a man was sitting in the drivers seat. We said to him hello? we booked a viewing. He said oh Yh that’s fine let me just make a call. He made a call and then said someone was coming to get us. (#2 very very dodgy experience lol. Makes sense as there’s NO reception area to speak to staff, common room or gym lol) That person then came down quite quickly. While waiting we looked at the building from the outside and windows were dirty, there was random large refuse bins everywhere and a massive mound of soil. The person who did our viewing was very nice very kind and friendly. He answered a lot of our questions. We headed up in the lift. The first question we asked was to see the 2 bedroom flats. The room was really nice to be honest, but very small. It had lots of storage. It had a shared bathroom which we wasn expecting and the bathroom itself was a large one with a small toilet, and a little basin with a layer of tile as a wash back tile thing and then the smallest square of a mirror. It also did not have a shower, instead it was a wet room lol with a drain in the ground (#3) which was not what was in the images online. Looked very ghetto to be honest. We went to the kitchen and it was absolutely horrible. Oh my days. There was condensation on the windows so clearly haven’t been taken care of. (#4) There was a dripping tap. The sink had mould spores on it. The actual worktops had stains. (#5) The sofa was all disorganised and like basically it was all messy and the pillows were all over idk how to explain. (#6) The floors were in cleaned too in the whole apartment so they clearly didn’t bother to hoover at least for a viewing. The second thing we wanted to see was the deluxe flats which had an ensuite. This is a flat which is in a 5 bed apartment. Bear in mind this is also not advertised online. These were a bit better. The bathroom was a bit better, no storage there though as seen from pictures and there was black mould in the shower box. (#7) The room again had lots of space and was a better view but had damp next to the bed as seen in pictures and black mould in which is really unhealthy. (#8) The kitchen.. oh my days the kitchen was horrific. I couldn’t even breathe properly in there. It was big yep I won’t lie, but DISGUSTING, the window propped open by a shoe by the current tenant which indicated that the window latch was broken, (#9) it STANK like something died in there or moulded. The worktops had deep stains in. (#10) There was two hoovers as well which indicated that one was broken clearly. (#11) The window area had further dirt and mould on the floor. (#12) Not sure how people live like this to be honest. And then we quickly left the place. It was really really bad. I asked a question about how does our tenancy get protected? The SA said that he doesn’t really know he’s from out the country so he just has a guarantor that’s it. (#13) this indicates that tenancy deposit is NOT protected and that they don’t care enough to even tell their tenants key information lol. I asked what’s the name of the building? Stratus sheffield but that didn’t come up on google maps? He said that Yeah it used to be called The Hub and it hasn’t updated. Once he said that, I immediately knew that this was the exact property all the reviews talk about. The management don’t even care about updating their google map. (#14) AVOID AT ALL COSTS. it is very poor quality for £90-125 a week. It should be £70 at best. Disgusting place. Also unsafe. The doors on the five bed flat that I entered had a sign which said, ‘lock doors, thieves about!’ which really shook me. (#15) They don’t even care about safety it seems. horrible. I’ll be looking elsewhere. It is now called Stratus but this student and public living property was also called The Hub in the past and is s6 3at. Any property which is not by Homes for students, Unite Students, This is Fresh, Digs, Capitol should be avoided. Stay away even if the different student accom websites pressure you to book them.
