The Big Estate Agency

We had to use the Big Estate agent in Shotton while we rented out a unit on Shotton high street. Unfortunately, we had nothing but problems with them from the start and still are months after ending the agreement. I would not recommend using them in any way in regards to letting, whether being a landlord or being tenants. I can only comment on the letting side of things and want to note I have no experience or opinion on their sales part of the business. I can’t go into personal details for legal reasons, but however over the course of seven months we had to deal with: A lot of small annoying problems from the start due to no inspection being undertaken, including smashed windows, water leaks, wrong plumbing being installed, leaking windows, exposed pipes, exposed electrical system. A massive amount of rubbish being left inside and outside the property. We had to buy plaster boards to cover up holes in the walls, replace all the skirting boards as they were a complete mix of different off cuts all put together. We had to get all these things sorted before we could even start getting the shop ready. Asbestos which was never addressed to this day. Raw sewage leaking on the property leading to shop having to be closed while this was sorted out – This took two weeks to sort this out no concern or urgency in the slightest. A roofer was purposely sent to fix a sewage drain. Needless to say, he was very confused why he had been sent. Main shop doors mechanisms breaking leaving the shop door stuck open. (Land lord came out off his own back to sort this same day, instead of having a shop door wide open for a few weeks if left to the big estate agents. We had quite a few more issues that I can’t list because by this point, we were going directly to the land lord to fix as we had lost all faith in the big estate agent, who in all honesty just didn’t care. The poor landlord who still had to pay the big estate agent to look after his property when he was the one who had to do everything himself while working nights at his fulltime job. The final insult was again by a set member of staff Delyth Kinnair who was our main contact and main problem throughout the whole process. Who purposely ignored contact over the last few days of the contract, so that we could not collect our last belongings totalling £1000. And then who directly accused us of breaking into our property as something had gone missing. Delyth Kinnair was extremely rude, unapologetic and was generally uncaring towards us throughout the whole process. And still is in regards to collecting final payments. The last thing to mention is I sent the director Paul Pedder a formal complaint on the 23rd of May, I still have not received anything regarding my complaint and really don’t expect to in all honesty. From our experiences and after speaking to other people with similar experiences, I would really think long and hard before letting a property by Big Estate Agents or using them to manage your property.
