Firstly I would like to say that the local agents were very good. In truth until we got our renewal reminder I did not realise I was dealing with this bunch of thieves. The standardised contract originally printed in 2004 had their name on it but all the covering documents were from our local estate agent. They are asking for £125 for continuing our rental agreement but haven't given me any good reason why it is so much. I must be have been lucky for the last 32 years because I have never been asked for such a fee. When I asked how they justified this they sent me a rude email basically telling me I was an idiot for not reading my agreement and that all agents charge this amount. This of course is untrue yes it is hidden away in clause 6.4 watch out for this it doesn't make it at all clear and it should be. As far as all agents charging this amount this is patently untrue I have never been charged this by any of the nine landlords or agents I have dealt with. They also sent me a poorly written standardised letter explaining what the cost were for. It had no actual figues in it, it was just rubbish about how the process was so time consuming and expensive, easily dissected into nonsense rhetoric that any idiot could have seen through. If it was so costly to produce all this then they must be the most inefficient organisation in the country, but I would suspect the money goes towards the expensive lifestyles of their executives really. We need legislation to control these rogue organisations in this country. Maybe it's time to start an internet campaign.
By not continuously adding more fees other than the rent that they are entitled to.

14 Apr 2013Totally agree with comments above, just had the same letter for a 12 month contract. They charge the landlord the same amount. Bit of check as they are generic documents with a couple of sentences bolted on the end for specifics. £250 for pressing the print button.

10 Sept 2013I can second this review. I was charged an admin fee of almost £500 when I moved into my apartment six months ago and have just received a letter stating that if I wish to renew for another six months, this will cost me £125! I have rented a number of properties with different agents in the past and have never been charged to renew the contract. I tried to negotiate with them and explain that as a single, unemployed parent it would be extremely difficult for me to find this extra money. They were very rude and unwilling to enter into any discussion about it.

Scammed me and my partner out of over £300 of cleaning costs. Moved into a property which needed completely cleaning as it was disgusting. Was told by the agent at the property that we can pay for this ourselves or wait for the agents to organiose the clean which we may have to pay for... Read Full Review

What a waste of space they are. We had a fridge in our flat that broke down and they couldn't remove. At the time, we agreed to leave it there as long as we receive a working fridge. When we vacated the flat we were charged for not removing the old fridge, them saying that they have no record ... Read Full Review

If I could zero stars I would. Shambolic company. Ever since my tenancy switched to Countrywide/Frank Innes Nottingham the service (if you can call it that) has been abhorrent. Unprofessional &biased staff, no duty of care to tenants whatsoever. I am currently pursuing my 2nd... Read Full Review

I have been a tenant of Countrywide Lettings for over 10 years. Throughout this time I have enjoyed living in the house and its lovely situation, but have continually had to complain about the inadequate sewage system. The pipes to the cess pit are collapsed and blocked, and as a result black... Read Full Review

Would like to add my experience of Countrywide. As a landlord, the tenant left without paying the final month of rent. This was ONE YEAR ago. No response from the 'property manager', always I am the one to send an email asking for an update, to receive a single line response. Am currently trying to ... Read Full Review

Absolute joke of an agents, do not provide a service for the tenant at all. Inventory was that bad it listed the front door as white upvc door in good condition when it had a blue front door that was damaged, bowed and cracked and did not fit the frame, house was dirty still had sellotape on the... Letting through this Estate Agents (alongside Frank Innes) has been one of the most stressful times in my life. We had a renewal contract sent out at the beginning of December. We immediately phoned up to ask to pay monthly (we had previously paid 6 months upfront). My partner spoke to a lady who... Read Full Review

I'm not sure what the connection is between Frank Innes and Countrywide but between them they provide no service whatsover. I have had countless problems with Countrywide. I am at my last ounce of patience now because I paid my rent 6 weeks ago for nearly £2000 and the landlord hasn't received a penny yet because Countrywide are incapable of sending me a tenancy agreement to sign. They have sent to me a copy with the... Read Full Review

I rented this property from Frank Innes, but it is Countrywide who I deal with when things go wrong, and who I pay my rent to. When moving into the flat it was filthy; that is the only way I can describe it. Not only that, but the fridge didn't work, there was no cold water in the bathroom and... Read Full Review

Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
