This letting agency appeared to pleasant. As a student, landlords and letting agencies have been a problem throughout my student experience. However, in my final year my flatmates and I had thought we had found someone fair and sincere, this was the case right up until we tried to reclaim our deposit. We had been released from the tenancy due to a breach of contract by the landlord, (the toilet in the flat above was leaking into our flat), this was a kind gesture of them. After vacating the flat when our deposits were released to us, deductions four times the agreed amount were still taken from us, which shows extremely poor faith on the behalf of Barbara Ellis Lettings. I would advise anyone to steer clear of this agency, it is a real shame I felt I needed to write this review, but the treatment of my flatmates and I at the end of our tenancy has been simply unacceptable.

27 Sept 2018The flat upstairs being dealt with by the Aberdeen City Council had indeed leaked water into our flat on several occasions. The tenants did not require the flat to the end of their lease so we agreed not to hold them responsible to the end of their lease after they vacated as a gesture of goodwill. The tenants confirmed they were still coming and going to and from the flat until 30 June. We held them responsible to this time only and not to the end of lease saving them one full month + 24 days rent so we are shocked by the complaint.

27 Sept 2018The water was leaking onto our electricity source, consequently, the tenants requested to vacate to avoid exposing ourselves to a potentially dangerous situation. We appreciated that the agency allowed this, but we assumed this was to allow the extensive work required to sort the water damage which was clear from within our property. I believe grounds for the complaint are just, if for no other reason than not keeping their word. An example being we were informed we would receive our full deposit minus cleaning which we accepted, which was then swiftly reneged upon.
