We have submitted a 69 page complaint about Horizon to the Property Redress Scheme. The specific property is owned by Victoria Al-Khafaji who is also the owner of Horizon. Where do we begin? There was open wiring in the property which, when a professional electrician was called, led to him being electrocuted, not once but twice.... with the mains switched off The ground floor front facing bedroom had no security for the first 4 1/2 months of the tenancy so we couldn't leave valuable equipment in the flat and of course it gave us concerns about night time. The boiler wasn't working properly for the first seven months of the rental meaning an absence of heating and hot water. One mattress was ripped and the other filthy when we arrived. The flat itself was incredibly dirty upon arrival. The garden, a key feature, was a jungle for almost the first five months of the property. There were problems with the smoke alarms and the heat detector in the kitchen. Items shown to us to induce us to move in were removed by the time we arrived - a fridge freezer and a sofa. There was a broken fridge freezer when we arrived though. Complaints were ignored for months. It was only with the introduction of parents and a London lawyer that things changed at all. If you read this and still proceed to rent via Horizon, my recommendation is that you photograph and video everything when you are shown the property and when you arrive. We did do that and it's proved incredibly important for making sure we had evidence for all our claims. You also might prefer to walk around in rubber shoes and wear rubber gloves in case of faulty wiring. On the photographs, they include pictures of the garden, photographs of the house when we moved in that show how dirty it was, the open wiring, the ripped and filthy mattresses, etc.

24 Jul 2017Now that the year has come to an end and we have received an award from the Property Redress Scheme, I have to report that the owner of Horizon and of the Property Company that sits behind it, doesn't appear to care about the welfare of the tenants. Certainly the tenants in this case suffered hugely from the numerous problems. My advice is still well clear of Horizon. We have rented property from numerous bodies over many years and this is by far, far, far and away the worst experience we have ever endured.
