Ashmore & Co are a con. Stay away from them. I was very skeptic about dealing with people that were so young and immature but at the same time secretly commended them for having their own business at such a young age. We contacted them to view a property. Our old landlord wanted their property back so we needed somewhere to move to asap. The viewing was arranged and done extremely quickly. At the time of the viewing myself and my housemate at the time commented on how unusual it was how comfortable they seemed with the then tenant and in the property, stretching themselves out all over the furniture as if it was their house. We joked with eachother that the then tenant must be a relative, maybe his nan. The property was amazing, perfect for us. We paid the deposit very soon after, which was very quick to arrange. When it then came to us coming in to do all the paperwork on the date we arranged, we hadn't heard anything from them so we called, maybe 30mins before we were due in to be told they had to cancel. So we rearranged for the next day. We then went in to see them to find that the office was closed. Ryan apparently was unaware of the appointment and Lee was not picking up. Ryan then said he'd bring all the forms to us. We were told referencing was approved and the property was ours, and that we had to complete tenancy agreements. Then they suddenly became unreachable. When we eventually got a hold of Ryan he said Lee has been taking prospective tenants money to secure properties that have already been rented out and that he's been sacked as a result but he'll do his best to find us another property. Eventually, we received all our money back in full, after a lot of arguing. This happened in January '15 and I recently met someone who said the exact same thing happened to her with the same lettings company in September '14. These people are con artists avoid them at any cost.

As you're aware the member of staff in question no longer works for Ashmore & Co for a number of reasons. I endeavoured to return your Application Fees in full and as quickly as I could. As a standard code of practice once an application is submitted on a property, it is taken straight off the market and all future viewings are cancelled whilst we conduct the referencing process. 27 Jul 2015As I have already explained in my review, I met someone last week who had exactly the same experience I did. With the two staff members, Ryan and Lee. She was told that Lee was supposedly fired at that point too in September 2014. A whole 4 months before Lee was fired when I had this experience in January 2015. This leads me to believe that they must be conning people like this on a regular basis. Do not be deceived by their response.

27 Jul 2015Just so everyone is aware, whilst I received my deposit back in full, the other lady who had the same experience only received half. Know your rights! They are not allowed to keep your deposit, they're commiting fraud. Consult citizens advise ASAP if you find yourself in the same problem with this lettings company

4 Sept 2020Hello. I have just found these comments and I am very upset and disheartened to read that these events have been blamed on me. I’m very sorry to hear this happened to you, I’m very shocked, surprised and saddened that I am only finding out about this more than 5 years later. I first started at Ashmore & Co in January of 2015. At this point, I was a new guy, just learning the ropes and I had no idea of the day to day, I just spoke to people over the phone and email. I worked there for a total of 6 months, I was paid a basic wage and I had absolutely zero control of any monies, I was not allowed to touch, count, receive or send money - that wasn’t my job. I was NOT fired either, I left because the manager Ryan had an affair with my girlfriend at the time and got her pregnant - I thought it would be unprofessional to work in close proximity with each other after that. I hope you received a full refund from this guy, he literally lies for a living and yes, people, don’t be deceived by the agent’s response. Best wishes Lee

I contacted Ryan to help me find a property and within a couple of days he had found me a property that fit my requirements perfectly. Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
