I vacated the property on the 31st of July and the final check out was done on the same day. During check out I was advised that the property was immaculate and I should receive my deposit back within 7 working days. This came and went without me hearing anything from countrywide. I tried to contact them several times but was always told the person dealing with my property was busy and would call me back, but they never did. I eventually reached chris Williams who advised me that countrywide would do nothing further until the landlord had confirmed he was happy for the deposit to be released, I was advised it was my responsibility to contact the landlord. I did this but the landlord had not yet received the check out report, fortunately this was emailed to us the same day. My landlord emailed myself and chris Williams to confirm the deposit could be refunded in full, I also emailed chris to ask for an email to confirm when this was done, I heard nothing from him so called and was told that he had done the paperwork and I would receive my deposit within 5 working days. This has now passed and I have not received it. I have emailed him and have attempted to call him without success. I feel very frustrated as I have never had trouble getting my deposit back from any other letting agents and I do not feel that I should have to constantly chase them. I shall be contacting my deposit safety scheme and will be making a complaint to countrywide. I would never use this company again.

7 Oct 2014Chris Williams is incompetent. I have had the same issue with him - he doesn't respond to phone calls or emails, and when you do finally track him down you'll be told Countrywide's email server, or phone system is at fault. His pathetic excuses sum up him and the whole Countrywide experience.

Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
