Upon arriving at the property some time after the previous tenants had left we found the property in a pitiful state. Light fittings failing to work, mould growing across our bedroom walls, bath plugs broken, disgusting bath seals, the flat was in a complete mess, and was mired in layers of dust. No work had seemingly been done on the flat except the kitchen for years.
We left the flat more or less as we found it, excepting that we fixed the problems (which were more numerous than I care to detail, apart from leaving some furniture (which landlords are usually quite happy about and will even reimburse you), the flat was more or less as it was.
Greenacre neglected their role in maintaining the property in after we notified them several times of very large masses of mould on the walls in both bedrooms, the spores of which can be dangerous (so much so that a friend actually had an asthma attack whilst sleeping there), they failed to respond and then apparently sent someone to fix the problem, but he never turned up.
Greenacre is one of those landlords who will maintain a property at the lowest possible minimum standard and charge the tenants for its yearly maintenance via security deposits. In our case, £500.
To stick the knife in, the agency even did not retain a spare set of keys for viewings and made us make new copies of keys for their viewings, something I found odd.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Fix our problems, which verged on dangerous. Don't arbitrarily charge us.
