I rented a property through Tucker Gardner in Ely 6 years ago. The shower in on-suite was leaking from day 1. We reported the problem at least 5 times and nothing ever got done about it! The boiler broke during our last winter at the property and we were left for nearly a month with no heating. We have a small child, so this was completely out of order. We have moved out of the property now, and Tucker Gardner are completely unprofessional yet again. They have suggested several deductions from our deposit for issues that were already listed on the inventory when we moved in, they tried charging us a full month's rent, when we moved out part way through the month and only needed to give 1 month's notice. They are holding back our deposit for no reason, there is no known reason and contacting them about it is next to impossible! I sent emails, left message and no response. If you want to save yourselves a lot of hussle, don't even consider using them!

As stated before, is a really unprofessional company and takes a long time to communicate with them. Every time you try to contact them they will pass you to a different agent who have no idea about the issues you have been trying to solve. Also, they do not offer any help to the tenant. It has been 3 weeks since I left the flat and I still do not have my deposit back! For the past two years I rented with them and I never felt they did a proper job, so I will not recommend this to anyone, avoid if possible!

This agents letting fees are certainly on the low side at 6%, but as the old adage says, you get what you pay for.
I have been using TG at Ely for well over a year to manage a property that we have locally The business relationship has been plagued with issue after issue, all of which can be attributed to poor management practice, resulting in poor customer service. I have an exceptionally good tenant, but unfortunately they have also suffered as a consequence. Previous issues have resulted in financial compensation - but what TG dont seem to get is that I dont want their money, I just want good service. The TG business seems to have a high turnover of staff, which is unsurprising. The existing staff are all very polite and say all the right things, as if they have been trained in handling difficult situations - but they very rarely actually help you, hiding behind 'policy and procedure'. The one person who is the exception to the rule is Georgina Goodjohn (Cambridge office), but unfortunately she was on holiday at this time. What has prompted me to write this review is that I recently had an issue, which was the last in a long line and no one either could or would help me, so I found the email address of Alison Platt (ceo@countrywide.co.uk) online, CEO of TG's parent, Countrywide. I can only assume that if Alison makes her email address public, then she would take any correspondence that she receives seriously, but I was mistaken. Alison doesn't answer her own emails or make phone calls to disgruntled customers - she has someone else to do that for her and that person advised me that it would take up to 3 weeks to respond, when I requested action on the same day. I may as well have just emailed a customer service call centre. As a consequence, my assumption is that poor customer service is fostered from the very top and endemic in the whole organisation. In short, stay clear.

I am a military member stationed at RAF Mildenhall, and I worked with TuckerGardner for over a month to try to rent a property in Soham. The entire experience was beyond stressful. I am new to both the military and to England's letting services, so I tried my best to let them know how the process worked on the military side.
TuckerGardner was extremely hard to contact, especially Elliot Drewery. Elliot rarely returned my calls or emails; I had to go to the office in person a couple times, just to get things done. They were rude and condescending; they insisted on telling me that I was wrong and that they knew the military process more than I did, even though I had just check. After several of our many phone calls, I would hang up crying out of frustration. TuckerGardner refused to believe me, and I even had to have my Housing Office on base call them and tell them the same thing I did.
Ex: I went into the TuckerGardner office in person, and told Elliot I wanted to have my rent due on the 1st. He said okay, no problem. I even confirmed over email that he said that just to keep communication clear. Then when I finally got my lease, it's payment period was not on the 1st. Elliot didn't tell me he had changed the game plan on his own. He just did it silently behind my back. I had to go into the office again in person to ask why, and he said he didn't remember agreeing to that. He said if I wanted it on the 1st and to move in mid-month, I would have to pay to that whole month, PLUS the difference. Which makes no sense, other letting agencies have no problem letting you prorate the difference, and start paying on the first.
I'm sad to say I never even got the house I wanted because I just couldn't work with them anymore. I am now getting a house from Henley's, a WONDERFUL letting agency that is impeccably comfortable with military members.

They have a reputation for never returning deposits. They actually drive their tenants to leave due to their behaviour and conduct. No doubt butter wouldn't melt with their landlords though.

This is by far the worst lettings agents I have ever rented with. The service they offer their tenants is horrific. I'm beyond the point of despair with them and now have had to sent a handwritten letter to my landlord explaining how awful things have gotten. I have called every 3 days now for 4 weeks and not once has anyone returned my phone call BUT they have managed to email me saying I need to pay more money to extend my contract and put my rent up.
I run a reputable company and would be absolutely mortified if I knew anyone felt this way about the service they had received from us.
I had brief dealings with the lettings director Anna Logan who was just as useless as the rest of the team and then left half way through dealing with my issue.
Do not sign up with this agency it will cause you nothing but stress and upset. The fees are extortionate and the customer care does not exist.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Tucker Gardner Ely - formally Russells. Horrifically bad customer service in all areas from the very beginning. They do not return phone calls. Emails are very rarely responded too, only usually after sending multiple chasers for any kind of response. No tenants were notified of the change from Russells to Tucker Gardner, only found out after trying to chase up responses in person to find that the office had been closed down! No feedback will be given after inspections, even after this is requested. Passed between different agents with no notification. No notice that someone has entered the property given, even after it was requested that they could at least leave a compliment slip to let us know that they had been inside the property while we were at work. Works carried out to boiler system within the property without giving us as the tenants any notice. Came home from work to find the front door wide open and the plumbers emptying the water heating tank onto the front lawn covering it in limescale. Issues with the electrics in the living room, not fixed during 2 years of living there despite the landlords being aware. A month after ending the tenancy, I am still waiting to receive the deposit return.

First off the fee for letting was astronomical, compared to other letting agents, im not sure what I paid for? I asked several times before moving if I could have the mattress removed, and nobody got back to me whatsoever, I had to set up my my standing order for rent and contact the council and water myself, other agents have done this at a much cheaper price, I had an electrical problem and instead of sending an electrician they sent the land lord who's a handy man. They changed banking when I was with them and I had to change the standing order myself, and on leaving I got charged another astronomical price, and had to cancel the standing order myself, and if I wanted to be there for the check out I had to contact them, unlike other agents iv used. And when I went to had in my notice, I had questions and nobody could answer as they had left new staff there !! Terrible, will never use again

Until 2.15 nobody showed up so I called them at the office and asked them about it. The lady told me she would call the agent and that she might have left ON FOOT because she saw nobody at the house. I was sitting there for 1 hour and 15 minutes and nobody came in or out so they obviously lie. After that I knocked the door and still no one was there so I call again and when I ask what happened with the agent they bluntly HANG UP! These people are terrible and they do not know anything about professionalism. They are a disgrace and you should avoid them at any cost! They are horrible.

I have had the misfortune to be a tenant of 2 properties managed by Tucker Gardner. The first was managed by the Cambridge office and the second by the Ely office. Common themes have occured with both. At both properties we have had domestic appliance (dishwasher) breakdowns which were never resolved. At the first property I eventually bought a dishwasher and had to replumb in the old broken dishwasher at the end of the tenancy. The property was being sold so why this was necessary I will never understand. I bought the dishwasher because despite asking for the existing one to be fixed or replaced it never was. At the second property the existing dishwasher malfunctioned and eventually (6 weeks I estimate) an engineer attempted to repair the appliance. They needed to wait for a part which when it eventually turned up we were told was broken so the landlord finally agreed to replace the dishwasher and ironically the new dishwasher turned up 2 days before we moved out approximately 4 months after the initial failure. I couldn't use the dishwasher I had bought for the first place as the dishwasher at the second property was integral to the kitchen and my dishwasher is free standing. Basically TG as managing agents don't care about serving the tenants at all. They are only bothered about serving the landlords. Then at the end of the tenancy despite thoroughly cleaning the property to a standard better than it was when we moved in I am waiting for a cleaning bill as they have said there are spiders' webs and dust. The property is next to a field. I left the property at 8 p.m on Saturday and it was inspected at 10 a.m on Monday 38 hours later. Tamasin Hensman said that spiders don't build webs that fast but I would like to know where she got her degree in the study of arachnids because that stance is basically wrong. It is exactly the same nonsense that Tamasin's colleague pulled on us at Cambridge and I think must be a company policy to fleece the tenants of some more money at the end of the tenancy. It is not that the money involved is vast that distresses me. IT IS A TOTAL SCAM. When we picked the keys up the TG person who handed them over (not Tamasin the spider expert) said they had just knocked down some spider webs because the property is next to a field and they had done their best. As the issue is so PETTY we did not mention it on the property inspection form. I think TG are an absolutely discraceful letting agent and if I am ever a landlord I would avoid them as I would not want to be associated with such a shabby company. I urge any tenant to try and rent a property where someone other than TG are the managing agents as you will not receive a good service in my opinion and you will go through a total farce when you come to leave the property. Tamasin's stance is that as we did not mention every little speck of dust or spiders' web on the initial inspection form she will apply a cleaning penalty at the end. BEWARE. THEY ARE AWFUL.

What agent could do to change your mind?
The agent could have been polite and respectful. I do not want to hear staff swearing when I am in a professional office with my child. Turning up on time to appointments would at least have been something.

The worst agent and staff I have ever had the misfortune to meet. * the manager is an absolute disgrace. Got annoyed and condescending with me on the phone when I chased for the 6th time in a month for a faulty boiler. I discovered an engineer had been riding around with a spare set of my house keys for a WEEK (I am a working single mum living alone with my kids). No apology or explanation given when I found out. I was very worried when I discovered that and then demanded at no time were my keys to be given out for any work - I would make sure someone was in. I left as soon as my agreement was up, because of the attitude and rudeness of this agency - the house was quite nice and I would have stayed otherwise.
On moving out of the property it was left in a much better state than when entered, however they charged me for cleaning out of my deposit. When I disputed the cleaning bill they refused to allow me in with them to check what was written on the checkout inventory and told me I can't dispute or they would increase it, which they then did a few days later after I filed an official dispute. They more than doubled it and re-wrote the check out inventory. I was called a stupid b**** on the phone by a member of staff when she thought she had hung up the phone on me (for chasing a leak repair still not done a month later). I honestly do not know how they sleep at night. Probably on all the money they lined their pockets with that they have taken from families.
Fees are extortionate. service is non-existant.

Arranged 2 viewings a week in advance for a move from the the north east. Agent cancelled both viewings without informing us, in part because they failed to note our details down correctly. Had we not been checking properties online and seen one was de-listed we wouldn't have known and would have driven three hours for no viewing. Staff were unapologetic, and didn't appear to try to find alternative properties to view. Would not use again.

I agree this has just happened to my son & seems to be standard practice even 18 mths after your initial comment, we spent 2 days cleaning vacated the property 2 weeks before we handed the keys...
