I have just sold my house in Barking while living abroad. I originally bought my house from Porter Glenny some years earlier and was very happy with their service at that time, so thought I would ask them to sell it also.
I also decided to use them as I saw they had some very good reviews online, way more than other surrounding realtors.
I spoke and dealt with Lisa Burch and I must say, the service was outstanding. She has always kept me informed by phone and email even though I'm in Australia. She also took on the awkward project of legacy tenants of mine that were living in the house at the time and were impossible to get in touch with among other issues, so inherited them and helped me get them moved out for the sale.
I was extremely stressed out, and if it wasn't for her I can't imagine how I would have managed. Lisa is a great real estate agent (realtor). She's unique and caring and I hope she goes far in her career.
I fully hope that Lisa will help me sell my other house when I muster up the energy to sell that one!

I recently purchased my first house, being sold through Porter Glenny and I have to say, I was very impressed. Alex from Barking was very helpful and kept me updated as far as he was able and was an excellent communicator between myself and the vendor. When I come to move (hopefully not for a few years!!) I am very impressed and the transaction was so much smoother than dealing with the national chains. We bought our first flat through Porter Glenny in late 2015/early 2016. It is a very tough market for first time buyers, and it was not the most straightforward of purchases - the flat is share of freehold so more complicated on the legal side. Alex was very helpful throughout and was able to get things moving and solve problems at many points throughout the process. My experience with Porter Glenny was much better than with other agents I encountered in my property search. We are now happily moved in. Many thanks!

Leading up to "exchange of contracts" when the pressure was on, prompt and invaluable action and support was also provided by Jeff Vedgen who kept me informed right up to the moment contracts were exchanged. Lisa liaised with us and with the previous owners in a professional manner.
We managed to view the house three times. She valued this was important to us as moving and buying homes is such a huge commitment.
Whilst Lisa was annual leave, Jeff was there to help with any questions we had. Both agents were lovely.
No email or call was left unanswered, even when Lisa was away on annual leave!
We were very satisfied with the level of service we received both from Lisa and Jeff.

This was the second time we had used Porter Glenny Barking Branch to sell a property and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Despite the uniqueness (and awkwardness) of the latest property, they persevered with great professionalism and lived the ups and the downs with us. Porter Glenny don't seem to respect the buyer at all; I've just had a very rude introduction to the cut-throat nature of Porter Glenny's behaviour with regards to the 'first to survey' procedure they have. The lady I spoke to said that Porter Glenny don't bother to ring potential buyers because it is too much like hard work. Bit of a shame really because we were prepared to pay 30 grand over the asking price and Porter Glenny threw that money away on behalf of the vendor. As a buyer and seller you want the agent that goes a little bit further to get the best price and make the buyer feel secure; Porter Glenny do the opposite!

I viewed the apartment, I was told I cannot arrange viewing at any other time and I can only view the property between 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm even though the property was Vacant I put an offer the offer was accepted according to these agents I arranged the mortgage sent them the principle agreement and I was in the process of arranging the survey in a next day or so, I got a call from Mr. Alex Bates saying the property has been sold to someone else as they booked the survey first

They have a male team member called John (not sure about the name) he was quite rude
Now to conclude my personal advise is not to trust these agents when it comes to purchasing, I am not sure about the letting side

I've arranged a viewing with this agent 3 weeks ago (10/10/2013). Apparently their guy came 15 min late. He showed the property and I liked it and put down the deposit for credit reference check. By that time I was advised credit reference takes 2/3 days and as soon as they get good reference from Credit Ref Agency they will prepare contact in a day or two.
Within a week they got reference from Credit Ref Agency (HomeLet). I was told reference is all good and now bear a day or two for contract once they have done equity report. After two days when I contacted them Geoff said he is contacting Landlord and have left voice messages as soon as he comes back he'll contact me. I've waited a day or two than contacted 3/4 times a day. Finally I got hold on Geoff. He told me landlord has changed his mind. He is expecting his father from Leeds to stay in property. Geoff asked a favour to bear until Friday (25/10/2013) morning and wait for his call. If landlord would not show up he will refund the deposit. On Friday I have waited his CALL until 11.30am but have not heard anything than I contact Porter Glenny, I was told Geoff is gone on holidays. I was shocked on the degree of their professionalism and customer services. Bear in mind, I've already told Geoff I've 4 weeks old baby and that notice has given to my landlord for 31st Oct. Any ways someone calls Ian picked up the phone. I told him story and left my contact details on the promise that he will contact me shortly. I've waited until 2pm, have not heard anything than I contacted by myself. I was told Ian is gone for the day and call was transferred to Alex. Again same story from them. It seems they have already given the property to someone or may be landlord is moved to someone else. I've also offered Geoff we can talk about rent if landlord wants a increase. Finally I've requested my refund from them. But got really terrible experience with them. I advise not to use this (PORTER GLENNY) Estate Agent. Its a waste of time and disappointment.

I recently made bids for a couple of different properties however at the last hurdle after the offer was accepted and mortgage was approved (on 2 separate occasions) I have received a phone call informing me that another prospective buyer has offered a better bid. How surprising. This is not the first occurrence. I have a suspicion that gazumping seems to take place within Porter and Glenny. Ways to avoid disappointment; I would recommend you insist for the advert to be removed off the market once your offer has been accepted or make a pre-contract deposit agreement that way it will prevent agents like Porter and Glenny being sneaky. Good luck with purchasing but I would personally recommend you stay clear of Porter and Glenny.
