I rented a property through Mr Ian Bowden when he was director of Bowdens. The property was very unkempt and I decorated the place to a high standard throughout. Mr Bowden even said what a good job I had done. I had paid a deposit of �890 and my monthly rent was �525. It was a tiny house but ok for me and my son. I waited 3 months for my tenancy agreement after I moved I and I never received a Tenancy Deposit Scheme certificate. When I left I had given a months notice but I got a cheque made payable to a friend who had initially leant me the deposit money for just �260. Mr Bowden claimed it was for the poor state of the property and the fact I hadn't give a months notice whenI clearly had. The man is a liar and a con artist. He should not be allowed to trade.

Literally don't even bother. I am terrified of ever moving from here that I wont get my deposit back. All he has done is lie, make up stories, fiddle money between myself and the landlord. He has made up lies between myself and my landlord, blames miscommunication but its all part of his little scheme to take money for himself and blame the tenant for missed payments, cancelled standing orders, mystery new ovens being ordered but not actually needed, told me I needed to pay rent 10 days early to a different account leaving me in financial difficulty..... I am not happy and I feel very worried. Should not be allowed to trade. Should be taken through the courts. He even asked me to post a 'nice' review because people had been leaving him bad ones. Funny how some good ones have appeared at the top of the page, can only imagine someone has faked them too.

I was in the midst of renting a property from Mckenzie Bowden and they were very quick to ask for the deposit money before any contracts had been signed, I reluctantly did this and never received any confirmation or receipt of payment despite being told I would. When the time came to sign the contracts I was greeted by an incompetent teenager who couldn't get the dates, spelling of names or how much had already been paid correct. We had to have him reprint the contract numerous times and never received a copy of a contract ourselves. We were to be moving into the property the following Saturday, however, the following Tuesday morning I receive a phone call informing me that the owner has no decided to sell and won't be letting us the property. She (the owner) had never signed the contract although she should've done that prior to ourselves. Ian Bowden informed me there was another property available and that it was available immediately, we agreed to view the property and take it if we liked it. The property was not available and the supposed landlord hadn't even exchanged contracts. Baring in mind we had informed our current landlord we wouldn't be staying in the property as of that Saturday, I now find myself with no home. Circumstances changed and I required my money back in full in order to feed myself and get myself to work, it was the 8th of June 2015 I asked for my money back and here I am today, without my money and not getting any form of correspondence back from this shambles of a company. Every time I phone or text or email I get short brief responses from time to time that don't ever answer the questions I'm asking. I hope nobody else has had to put up with this nonsense. Disgusted is an understatement, even after threatening legal action, they don't seem to care and still have my money (unless they've spent it).

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH IAN BOWDEN! Bowden advertised a property for rent and arranged for his colleague to escort me on a viewing. When I put pressure on him to agree a move in date and provide a tenancy agreement, he became evasive and aggressive. Concern about his behaviour led me to this website where I found reports of cases similar to mine. A visit to the property concerned confirmed that it was not even on the rental market. When I confronted Bowden he was dismissive of my concerns but agreed to refund my deposit - I am still waiting. Bowden * has caused immeasurable distress and anxiety to my family - UNFORGIVEABLE! *

Apparantly he works under the name acorn now aswell as mckenzie bowden so if you come across either of these avoid like the plague. This transaction started in late August 2013 however as of March 2014 he has only paid back £500 of the over £1400 he has stolen from me.
BE WARNED, believe nothing you hear and you won't be disappointed.

Please do not use this agent in either a landlord or tenant capacity. It will cost you money unless you are very careful indeed. I made the mistake of using him as an agent and found that he lied repeatedly, did not bank the tenants deposit with the correct authorities, took an extra deposit form ... Read Full Review

Please do not use this agent in either a landlord or tenant capacity. It will cost you money unless you are very careful indeed. I made the mistake of using him as an agent and found that he lied repeatedly, did not bank the tenants deposit with the correct authorities, took an extra deposit form the tenant without telling me etc ... I also have friends who have lost money by working with him. Stay clear.

We rented a property from Ian Bowden for two years in Newton longville.
Ian Bowden was unprofessional from the start and we had to seek advice from agents we knew about his practices. He was slow to arrange repairs when they occured and even failed to arrange others. When we moved out he promised to return our deposit of 1100 Pounds but. As we had moved abroad he seized on that opportunity and never returned the deposit.
This man is by far the most unscrupulous agent we have ever dealt with ans should never be trusted.

Ian Bowden is a horrible human being and he should be stopped as soon as possible from stealing other people's money. I bet he uses our hard earned cash to pay for his brand new Mercedes and other luxury items.

I have recently bought a house and used the services of McKenzie Bowden. I dealt with Ian Bowden throughout. In general he was helpful and his responses were speedy.
