FROM 5 STARS TO 1...and I'm being nice... Absolutely utterly awful. We've been with Martin and Co for few years. Moved to the house on Broad Street, Truro. The house was redecorated by it's owners, so wasn't all professionally painted..but anyway... we got the house, monthly payment 1040£, after few months, we've notices that the wall in the dining room is...falling off... literally. In the lounge paint stared peeling off after few weeks... Contacted the agency, nothing was sorted for months... the part of the wall fell off... we had heading non stop and the house was airy all the time.../ month and months later, the price went 20f up( nothing fixed) dining room was useless... Several leeks from the roof and the ceiling, that have never been fixed, and added even more to the wall damage. Yet..we were patient. The wall.was never properly finished, no treatment,nothing..after the walls dried they started crumbling again... Everything was diy and poorly done, we wanted to paint the house, owner agreed. We've sterted painting the house, all Farrow& Ball to find out that the house is on sale... At the same time, still hoping that the agency will fix the wall, the ceiling, and leeks..nothing.. The oven was so old the door broke and burned my hand. Informed the agency, they've been over many times- checking the house and the boiler- which was constantly broken, because they didn't want to fix it. After 4-6months the door from the oven wasn't fixed. The old toilet system (thank god, we had 3bathrooms) was broken-informed the agency, spoke to a plumber - for 3-4months no one came!! which by law is illegal for the agency not to fix the toilet! Still...we were patient. House was sold, ...we didn't finish the painting, started taking off paint in the bathroom... Anyway..now... The house is going to a new owner, who is demolishing the kitchen, wall between the dining room and the lounge and everything else... - they've agreed we don't need to paint anything, agency confirmed by email. Now, moved out few days ago- cleaned everything, even hired the carpet cleaner as Will told us(agent) threatening there might not be a deposit back... Got a report today- and apparently EVERY SINGLE THING THAT WE'VE TOLD THE AGENCY, THAT NEEDS FIXING, OR THAT WAS THERE WHEN WE'VE MOVED IN OR HAPPENED DUE TO THE POOR QUALITY OF BUILDING ...WAS OUR FAULT...AND WE WON'T BE GETTING OUR DEPOSIT BACK...Will knowing our cleaning guy comes on Monday at 3pm sent someone to check the house at 11... we've left the bins recycling in recycling bags and everything in black bags for bin collection today.. yet, the report says we've left loads of rubbish... We've even hired a skip months ago, go get rid of the previous owners junk from the attic and shed...and we've left things that were there..yet... still our fault... Martin and Co is a disgrace, absolute disgrace. When Julie was there it was far more decent agency, but Will, along with Jamie are utterly unprosfessional, and try to avoid email conversations....

After several frustrating attempts to arrange a short notice rental property through other agents in Truro, I found Will and Leanne to be a completely differnt level of service. From first contact I found Will and Leanne to be helpful, and showing a genuine sense of consideration towards me as a customer. They made an effort to help me get the contract expedited with the landlord, to allow me to occupy the property within what was a very small window of time. Subsequently, they have also been both very responsive on a couple of follow-up issues.

Terrible agent. I paid my deposit and rent to them. Had all communication with the agent in relation to the property and not with the landlord. At the end of my tenancy the agent organised a checkout report which stated the property was clean and in good condition. The landlord is now trying to deduct money from my deposit and when I asked the agent to explain how this has happened I was informed me the agents don't manage the property and I have to deal directly with the landlord. I should be been informed that Martin and Co weren't managing the property at the start of tenancy! I'll be lodging a complaint with the Property Ombudsman

I understand the agent has to charge certain fees, however I do find them fairly steep.

Completely unreasonable deposit deduction, property was left in excellent condition. Improvements we have been billed for have yet to be carried out. Do not expect any common sense or decency especially around getting money back.
They are the epitomy of why estate/letting agents are considered the most unpopular profession.
Cannot recommend them as a tenant, they are unreasonable and difficult. Only truly motivated when it comes to trying to hold onto your money. I have rented from many different letting agents and I have never had such a negative experience

They strive to achieve defensive excuses to drive their customer service apposed to compromises, empathy and usefulness.
I have never felt so negatively about a company as I do Martin & Co. If you would like further information then please feel free to contact me(If messaging is permitted etc).

I dont think there could be enough space to write what i need to but in a nutshell i recommend along with other reviews to avoid at all costs. The good reviews i would be cautious of also.
They are lap dogs with no back bone and deal with tenants abissmally along with the Landlord they were attempting to represent who as we were first told when we moved in by more than one person and some of these people did not know each other saying "Be warned they will rob you of your deposit and try and get anything out of you to improve the house you are in at the cost of the tenant"....almost they were right and luckily we have a good legal team and we finally after a wrangle got our full deposit out after expecting us to pay for a mould ridden hole of a property at £1700 a month...
They are unhelpful and difficult and the funny thing was when our deposit was £2353 paid they said we could get £2800 back if we agreee to the amount to deduct...they dont even know what deposit was actually handed over so i said "yeah send us the £2800" but we dont agree to the deduction.....
Wonder if they realized their mistake at all but either way we got our full deposit back. I mihght add most tenants that have been in that house have had the same issue....There are not many houses with Martin and Co at £1700 so work it out where it is and BE WARNED!!
I might add we handed back that house a better state than what it was as it was like and probably still is a throw back to the 1980's but then again some peoples idea of demonstrating a house is a little different to others but luckily we were able to make best of a mould hole....NEVER AGAIN AND AVOID AVOID AVOID ...oh and im not ashamed to show my name either as i have nothing to hide at all.
The Landlords will be as nice as pie to your faces and do all they can to make you feel good in their home but its a ploy to rob you at the end i can assure you....we fought and won but anyone else may not be as lucky like others that have lived there.
I might lastly add we are suing the owners on a seperate case for paying rent on a seperate cottage on the grounds that were uninhabitable and i will keep fighting...

I have been a landlord for years and have always managed my own portfolio and had both good and bad tenants in my time but it all got a bit much so I decided to have a look around at some Letting agents. I had always been unsure of them in the past but a friend of mine who has also been a Landlord for a long time recommended Martin & Co. I went in to all of the agents in Truro and Falmouth and found that most either to busy to listen, to young to care or just didn't seem bothered and it seemed that I knew more about renting property than they did. So i decided to follow my friends advice and went in to Martin & Co where I first met Gareth the owner of the company and then a really helpful guy called Will. Will was very patient with me and went through all of the different services and products they provide in detail. I then met their property manager and negotiator who were also really nice and knowledgeable. After Will looked at my properties I now have more money coming in than I did when I looked after them and I have much more protection with a rent guarantee. When I heard that Martin & Co had won gold at the estate agency of the year twice in the last 3 years. I think their results speak for themselves.

Having used several agents in Cornwall over the past few years, I discovered Martin and Co, and what a breath of fresh air! The Manageress there didn't attempt to give us the normal agent patter, but simply listened to what I wanted and gave several options for ensuring I received great value.
For once I felt like I was in the hands of a professional who understood the business well, but more importantly understood what the customer wanted. When it came to completing the documents, she made sure everything was well laid out and clear. The company are offering some really useful services at great value, and without the small print! But not only the Manageress genuinely wanted to ensure I was happy with everything.
Well done Martin and co - and the Manageress who helped me so much with her knowledge and professional attitude. I am sure we will see this name more and more, and I for one will be putting all my properties their way.

She is obnoxious and needs bringing donw a peg or two by anyone facing her. Under no circumstances does she deserve a job in the capacity she is in and how she got there ill never know. There is one lady who has been very polite called Pam but other than that the best thing for the Manageress to be doing is signing on to a personality course of the lost and found dept............Avoid at all costs!!
